Humpback Whale near Destin Shore

Well, apparently humans aren't the only creatures who enjoy Destin for the fishing and the beach.

This humpback whale was spotted near the coast in Destin, Florida last week.

Several boats gathered to watch our large and famous visitor splash around and put on a show.

The photos below were emailed to me by a friend (thanks Shane!) and courtesy of Scuba Tech.

Here's the story: Rare sighting of humpback whale

Kinda weird to think of a humpback whale in this area. But, it looks like they migrate to tropical waters for mating and birth.

First time I can remember a humpback in our area... we see other whales occassionally...

Nice.

I read that normally they are migrating to the arctic waters this time of year.

This guy is a bit off...

Damn polarity shift...

Or

Maybe he knows something about the Mayan calender, he is just wanting to hit up the Worlds Most Beautiful Beaches before 2012 rolls around.

Who knows...

Great pics though.

Only Randy could out-ski a humpback whale.

Having said that... what an amazing story. Any follow-up on what happened to the whale or how it made the way to PCB?

My guess:

It heard about all the party action on Spring Break, and just took some time to swim all the way to check it out in person!
