I guess all the gay guys have their own websites where they post, so there's hardly ever any action on this one... SO, I thought I'd help out....
I asked my brother what a good looking gay man did for a drink in Key West, and here's what he said: Many people will try to make you go to Sloppy Joes and The Bull. You should probably go at least once, especially now that the bar upstairs at the Bull is topless, but I simply can not tolerate the bad tourists on that end of the island… so, when you’ve had your fill of that… try these: La-Te-Da: La Terrazza Di Marti, a fine old guest house with a fine new restaurant (Alice's), once considered long past her prime, (not unlike many of her guests) - now sparkling renovations and the fabulous Chris and Randy Roberts drag shows! A great place to find some of the island’s upscale gay alcoholics reminiscing about the good old days as they slowly disintegrate right before your very eyes. ****The Rooftop: Also at the wrong end of Duval, right across from a major Conch Train Depot. Up the stairs, under a tree, this is an excellent vantage point from which one can look down his or her nose at the typical Key West Tourist and wonder why on earth anyone would ride around the island on a Conch Train facing backwards! The Banana Daiquiris are right soothing and the tree provides some much welcomed shade during a hot afternoon. Bring Olympic Score Cards to pass the time away playing an innocent game of Trash Touristcapades. Bourbon Street Pub: If you’re walking up Duval (sometime it just happens), you’ll be hot. The pub is very gay, but it gives great BTU (that’s airconditioning… not an kinky acronym) ****The Atlantic Shores: A lovely, clothing-optional resort at the south end of Duval. Well, actually, it’s not “lovely,” but it has a huge deck, a huge dock, the occasional huge dick and a great bar and outdoor grill. They play great music, the management and staff are all great people, the clothing optional slant is nothing more than humorous and there is great access to the water. The Shores is also the best place to spend an afternoon or early evening. At 4:00 p.m. everyone goes home for a nap and you can really enjoy the solitude of the island; the bar stays open until 11:00 p.m. Other than the fact that the Sun doesn’t set on this side of the island, it is also the best place to be at Sunset (no crowds). ALL of the employees are great. Introduce yourself to Katie (Ms. Manager); tell her you are guests of Ken Davis from Atlanta and of Toni Davis and Key TV. The Little Davis Children spend all of their spare time here. Also, on Thursday nights, they welcome you for “Cinema Shores”… they show current real movies in the parking lot… they move all the pool’s lounge chairs out to the parking lot, they pop popcorn, it’s cute. It’s fun. ****Finnegan’s Wake: Straight, local. Great pub with real Irish ales. Bring your dog… this is not America. OK... so that's what he said, and I believe him. |
