Does anyone on here LIVE in Key West?
If so, can you suggest where would be a good place to look for a job down there? I will be trying to relocate to Key West come about September or October. I am an accountant with a degree in Finance. I know the military base is there, and a job there will be my best bet. But, besides the restaurants and bars, what else is around there? Any businesses that might need an accountant? ANY suggestions here are welcome.

jobs here
Hi,
First thing I would do is sign up and get our daily paper on line. Go to www.keysnews.com for that. It will give you the classifieds and from there you will see what companies we have down here. The large hotels are always looking for an accountant. We have a Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Wyndham and Radisson down here to name a few of the larger hotels. There is a local group that owns serveral hotels so they might also be an option. I think the name is Spottswood Co. Google it and you will find it. They own things throughout the Keys. Many employers insist on the person having a local address and or a local phone number so you will want to get that established as soon as you can. But it wont hurt you to send something out to some of these places ahead of time and let them know when you are coming down. People are always looking for good employees and if they feel you are one, most will work with you during the transition down here. GOod luck with your search.

Yes, keep a watch on the ads at: http://keysnews.com/
You are lucky - when I was looking, this wasn't online, so I subscribed to the actual snail mail paper. Most places will require that you have a residential address. I would check the better hotels - also real estate agencies and some of the nicer restaurants that would have a need for accountants. If I can help you further, please feel free to E-mail me. Good luck in your search! |

Hi! Im going to Key west for the first time 4th of July weekend. I am flying from Costa Rica to visit with some friends so Id like to make the best of my experience. I am also looking for a inexpensive place to stay (anything that wont set me back $150 a night), all I find on the internet is super expensive so I was wondering if you could give me any "secret" local tips. Finally, where can we go party???? Thanx

The 4th of July is one of the busiest times here. Especially with the 4th landing on a Monday. I don't think you will find too much under 200. I doubt you will find anything under 150. The less expensive hotels will be in an area called New Town but you will need some means of transportation to get to old town which is where the tourist section is. It has most of the museums, galleries, tours, bars, restaurants etc.

Thanks a lot for your reply! I will have a car, so old Town is definitely a possibility...any suggestions on hotels?
Thanks again!! |

In New Town you could try The Fairfield Inn, The Comfort Inn, The Inn at Key West. Go to keywest.com and it should have others listed. Dont wait too long though. Things are already booked or getting close to it.

Key West is a great town, but it has become prohibitively expensive. Check out the rest of the Keys and you may find some places where there are more jobs and the cost of living is lower. You can still drive to KW when you want to.

If you don't find anything interesting in Key West on July 4, check out Sombrero Beach at mile marker 50. They throw a great all-day beach party (FREE), starting with a parade, and ending with the biggest fireworks display you've ever seen! There is live music all day long, food, games, etc.
