Cool Quick question

Hi ya'll!!

My wife and I are planning on a trip to get away from the cold!!

We're from Minnesota and we're coming to the Keys this week on Thursday 10th!!!

Quickly respond and let me know where can we go for a very good time? Any restaurants/bars that you can recommend? We will be staying athe Douglass House Hotel through till next Thursday the 17th.

Any places that are really exciting to see?

Any advice about the Keys? What to expect?

Sorry for a late question..I just found this site today!

Respond ASAP Please!

Thanks in Advance!

Glad you found us MountainDew, let's see how we can help... expect to be just floored by the weather. The temps will be in the sixties and seventies most likely, and you should thaw right out!

Good places to eat are Shula's on the Beach, B.O's Fish Wagon, and Louies Backyard. Shula's, on Simonton Street, is great steaks and seafood, Louies Backyard is Caribbean food, and B.O.'s is... something you'll have to experience. Locals usually go for the Grouper, but it's all good at B.O.'s.

Key West definitely has a bar for you... if you like live music and a wild party atmosphere hit the Hog's Breath Saloon on Front Street. Capt. Tony's and Sloppy Joe's are both almost always a good time.

No doubt you've heard about Mallory Square, the sunset celebration and the oddball performers - but don't miss them. It's the quintessential Key West experience.

Make it a point to rent a kayak, waverunner or small boat and explore the waters around Key West... you'll get a whole new perspective on the island!

Have a good trip, and enjoy!

Wink Which place?

Dean,

Thanks for replying!

One more question, where, or which restaurant do you think would be a perfect for a romantic evening...I'd like to take my wife out for a night of romantic dinner. Maybe a place where they would have a exoctic surrounding, waterfall by a table? Something like that?

Is there a spot that's really great for a night stroll on the beach? About a nice spot during the daytime where we could go to on the beach to tan without so many people around?

What about a sure thing adventure where we could go to spend some money for an exciting time? What's the pricing range to rent a waverunner?

I know so many questions, so little time...

See if you could respond pretty quickly again too! I'm leaving tommorow night for the cities to stay the night at a hotel to be closer by to the airport since we're leaving at 6 am on Thursday! Because we live way down south of Minnesota border! We got to be at the airport 2 hours prior to our flight time! That's going to suck big time!

Thanks!

Thumbs up

Always glad to help, MountainDew! Key West has quite a few restaurants that should fit the bill... Louie's Backyard and La Trattoria leap to mind.

Smathers Beach is probably your best bet both for a late night stroll and for daytime sunbathing... but I don't know how private it'll be. The beaches tend to draw everyone on the island. Smathers Beach is on the south side of Key West on South Roosevelt Blvd.

As for waverunners, they run from $35 - $75 an hour at most places. There are also several sailboats that have 3 - 5 hour private sails in the same price range.

Good luck with the crowds at the airport, and just remember, you'll be warming yourself on the beach before you know it!

Cool All Set

Dean,

All Righty then! I think we're all set to go! I'll look the restaurants you recommended up and check it out.

Thanks for all the info! :)

When we come back I'll post the review the restaurant listing on your list give some feedback on whereever we go there.

We're pretty eager to get out of MN for a while! :D

Strangly enough today is pretty warm out today here in MN! It feels like 50 degrees out! BUT it's supposed to get back to the teens by this weekend! Yikes!

Hopefully when we get back we'll be nicely tanned!

Thumbs up The Minnesota Key West couple!

Might be a tad to late here, but Dean gave you some great advice. I like to also add to the plate some suggestions. Key West is highly noted for there restaurants & shopping on Duval St. besides the Duval crawl. Definitely stop by Fast Buck Freddie's for shopping. For breakfast go to Blue Heaven, very funky & is located in the Bahaman Village on the corner of Petronia & Thomas St's or Pepe's Cafe located at 806 Caroline St. Lunch at Alonzo's Oyster Bar located at 700 Front St. at A&B Lobster House, outside seating & a great view of the gulf, Turtle Kraals, also a great view & is located at Lands End Village at Key West Bight across from the Half Shell Raw Bar, a locals favorite or B.O.'s Fish Wagon for a great fish sandwich or Louie's Backyard, located at 700 Waddell St. for a view of the ocean & a little bit expensive. Stop by the Schooner Wharf Bar for a sandwich & some great music by Mike McCloud Key West Bight at Historic Seaport & for evening dining there is El Siboney, a locals favorite & great Cuban food & not bad on the billfold, located at 900 Catherine St., or El Meson de Pepe located at Mallory Square for Cuban food & great Latino music, 7 Fish located at 632 Olivia St. or Marquesa Cafe, probably need reservations for both or if you want romance & great French dining I would highly recommend Cafe De Artistes at 1007 Simonton St. & make reservations weell ahead. After all of that, stop by the Blond Giraffe at 629 Duval for the best key lime pie in the world.

Take the Old Town Trolley or the Conch Tour Train (recommended)for a great view & history of the island. This way you & your wife can see some of the attractions that might be of interest to y'all such as the Ernest Hemingway House, located at 907 White Head St., Harry Truman Little White House, located at the Truman Annex, Key West Light House or Aquarium, Mel Fisher Museum, Flager Station, take a glass bottom boat tour, historic & haunted ghost tours & make sure you stop by Fast Buck Freddie's for some great shopping. Don't forget about Fort Zachary Taylor beach also, might cost you a couple of dollars to get in but worth it. The last thing is Mallory Square for sunset activities or you might consider a sunset cruise on board the Floriadays docked at the Hyatt resort for a very romantic evening. :D
