FRANKO’S at MANGOES
Franko Richmond, well-known Key West pianist extraordinaire, will open at Mangoes Restaurant, 700 Duval Street on Saturday evening November 18th from 7 – 10 pm. Following his opening night, Franko will bring his keyboard magic to Mangoes regularly for five nights a week – Tuesdays through Saturdays – starting at 7 pm. Since his arrival in Key West, Franko has thrilled many audiences with his unique arrangements of a wide variety of piano music, having performed at the Pier House, Casa Marina, American Bar, Square One, Hot Tin Roof, Hickory House, Walter’s Grill and others. On his upcoming opening, Franko comments, “I am thrilled to be the resident pianist at Mangoes, one of Key West’s legendary restaurants. It’s great to be working with the new owners, Joe and Winnie Walsh, and I’m planning to develop some new repertoire including classic Cuban love songs. I’ve spent a major part of my career performing for dinner in many fine establishments, including a 20-year stint at the international Hotel Thayer at West Point, New York. I’ve come to find that the dining audience affords me a distinct opportunity to perform a wide selection and many styles of music, which keeps me in great shape for my concert work. I’m really looking forward to including Mangoes in this wonderful tradition…and I already know most of the staff!”
Franko is also well-known to local residents for his work with the Key West Pops, the Key West Symphony, Nora Revelin’s Keys Kids and “Steel Your Heart” Pan Band, the Bahama Village Music Program and numerous benefit performances. His “Piano Dreams Come True” course at Florida Keys Community College continues to be popular with both adult beginners and professionals.
