Icon2 The Key West Resort & Convention Center

One of the many other big issues the City Commission covered last night was the vote on whether the Spottswoods' big redevelopment project can go forward.

For y'all's information, they want to tear down the Days Inn, Radison, Quality Inn and the (relocated) Holiday Inn on the North Roosevelt curve and replace them with a "Convention Center". They presented details about it last night and then the commission voted unanimously to approve it.

Thanks for the info Stormi.

What do the KW locals say about the Convention Center? Seems like losing all those hotels would seriously hurt the accommodations choices in KW.

We're going through similar growth and changes in PCB. Locals opinions are split. It's a very hot topic...

Your right SWN ~~ accommodations for that area will hurt & especially the people who will be losin their jobs over this in the near future ~~ Altho there are plenty of rooms in & around Old Town I don't think this will hurt Key West ~~ but for the Atlantic side yes this might be impacted cause that area was mostly bargain rates for the tourists ~~ Key West will always be on the move for change & gonna cost more & more dollars not only for the locals but for tourists as well ~~ There are mixed feelin's & opinions over this redevelopment from what I have heard ~~

The most significant improvement will be addin to Key West architecture on Roosevelt ~~ This may be a good advantage to the city ~~

I hope KW doesn't lose it's character to so much development. Not necessarily the buildings, but the fact that many of the ppl that make the island so unique and so cool won't be able to afford to live there. Hopefully KW has some trustworthy offials overseeing everything. Someone should remind them that the key to happiness is moderation/

We say "What in the World do we need a convention center for?"

It's a 4 x 1.5 mile island.

It's official, the charm is gone. Welcome to Ft. Lauderdale South.
