Exclamation 2007 Lobster Mini-Season

Another lobster mini-season approaches and I would like to remind visitors of a few important rules.

1. During the two-day mini-season, diving/snorkling is prohibited within 300 ft of any improved shoreline. This includes, houses, roadways, etc. So, please do not attempt to take lobsters from canals. Basically, you have to dive from a boat more than 300ft from shore. This ordinance is actually criminal.

2. Noise ordinances are strictly enforced by the local authorities. Please respect the permanent residences and do not throw loud parties at your rentals.

3. Do not discard the lobster heads into our canals. The dead carcasses scare off our sea life.

The last last few mini-seasons have brought numerous injuries and a few deaths each year. Please be careful, don't dive alone, and make it out of here safely.

Thanks for the advise Aquahound. Good stuff. It's always good to consider the local perspective in any tourist destination.

Hopefully everyone stays safe this year.

(Is it as hot down there as it is in NW FL right now? Upper 90s!!!!!!! )

I'd just be thankful if I could be within 300 feet of anywhere in the keys right now. It'd be cooler than it was here today...but I love the heat!

Spiny Lobster love the shallows. My canal wall is loaded with them. I can actually reach down with a stick and coax them out into a net without ever going into the water. I'm patiently waiting the start of the main season to pull them out.

But that does take the sport out of it. Snorkling the coral heads off shore for lobsters is alot of fun.

So do you use a lobster call? "HEEERRRE Lobbie-lobbie-lobbie?"

Up here in the flatlands and tall corn, we have duck calls, turkey calls, telemarketer calls, but I can't find a lobster call.

Wishin'.......

P.S. Star: the lobsters in your area are hiding deep because of those 6 noisy blue & yellow airplanes that fly over a lot.

I do have my own lobster call, but I'm not quite sure how it sounds under water.

As for those planes. They are no more. Mosquito Control got rid of those. Thank Goodness!!! Those things used to rattle my whole house. They use helicopters now.
