Key West, here we come!
I'm leaving for Key West today right after work! Gonna be driving our MGA in the Conch Republic Independence Day parade next week! We've got 30 dozen Mardi Gras beads to toss to spectators. Hope that's enough! Hard to find room in those little cars to put everything!

Sorry for the delay! I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to computer stuff.
Here's a couple of pics from the Conch Republic Independence Parade, the Great Naval Battle and the Bed Race. Let me also state here & now that it's hard to get good quality photos while you're driving in a parade! |

Thanks! We had a great time! The parade was a little strange; lots of drunks shouting & practically climbing in your car for beads. I tossed most of my beads to little kids and elderly who seemed genuinely surprised & delighted to get them. The Great Naval Battle was fun; especially the "air support" they had. Tossing rolls of TP out of an old bi-plane & a plane like Sky King used to fly (boomers- remember him?) The Bed Race was a hoot! Wish we had been there for the "Drag" Race!
I hadn't been to Key West in 25 years. Boy, has it changed! Found some great places to eat that were recommended by the locals. I'd definitely go back! |

We had lunch at El Siboney, a Cuban restaurant at the corner of Margaret & Catherine. I had the conch chowder, which was excellent and my husband had a roast pork sandwich on Cuban bread. It was so big that he could only eat half & he said it was the best pork sandwich he's ever had!
Went to happy hour twice at the Half Shell Raw Bar. Nice, big oysters on the half shell 50 cents a piece and steamed shrimp with great drink prices. A and B Lobster House was fantastic, also. We ate downstairs on the deck during happy hour and got a break on the prices. Can't remember what my hubby had, but I got the steamed clams and a wonderful greek salad. I'm having trouble remembering where else we ate during our visit. Probably due to the mass quantities of adult beverages we enjoyed while we were there! |

El Siboney is a little off the beaten path in Old Town & is a neat and tidy place with no frills but great food. Definitely worth looking for!
I just remembered another place we went to for breakfast; Blue Heaven. Fortunately, we got there early 'cause by the time we left, there were mobs of people waiting. Hubby had awesome blueberry pancakes and I had shrimp & grits; OMG!! |
