Me and a few buddies of mine are headed to Key West for spring break this year and were wondering about how strict they are about the drinking age and enforcing it. I have heard that it goes both ways......that they are strict and that they aren't. I've got a couple of friends that are on the verge of turning 21, but won't be before spring break. Would we have a problem going to the bars? If so, would a fake ID work? I just need a little feedback. Thanks

Key West is very strict when it comes to underage drinking. Most all bars will card during Spring Break and they will card everyone who is trying to get in whether they look 21 or 60. If you get caught you will spend the remainder of your vacation waking up very early and cleaning beaches and public areas during the day.

HI- I was just going to tell you that they are pretty strict about carding but we used a fake last year and it worked at all the bars... just have it be pretty realistic. We are going to be going to Key West for spring break again this year (4 girls from WI) so if anyone is going to be there March 20-27 let me know! Thanks!!

For the person who said they had used fake ids....how good where your ids? my boyfriend and i are going to key west march 21-28 and he's 21...and i'm not. i have a fake id that looks pretty good....but i just wanted to know what my options where and how hard they card.

are there any places where you can go if you are under 21?

they're really strict in a few places my friend got 2 id's taken from him at sloppy joes and irish kevins, ricks isn't too bad

he also got one taken at fat tuesdays

Suggest you stay home "kiddie" till your 21.

Key west is crazy strict about underage drinking. Trust me i know. They bring in a special police taskforce called the tobacco and alcohol police. Its not the bars that are strict, they are actually really lazy. Once place even scanned my ID on 3 different scanners that all said it was fake and they still let me in. The only thing that got me in trouble is having a drink out on the street. If the cops see you with a drink they will card you for sure. In florida they dont have minor consumption laws just minor in possesion so you can only get in trouble if they see a drink in you hand. If you do happen to get caught it is the worst time of your life. You will have court the next day at 8am and have the choice of a 200 some dollar fine or community service. Not many people pay the fine. I chose the community service and right after you choose they slap a orange vest with county jail written on it and put you on a bus. Then you get to go clean up the ditches for 8 hours. People yell and throw **** at you and it sucks. Honestly the bars were a blast and i sure got my fill of bews. I was wasted when they got me but the punishment sucked ***.

Do a lot of people go to Key West for spring break? What are the most popular dates and what part of town is best to stay in for the "happening" parties

Its a very popular destination, pretty much for the entire month of March. It is also an expensive destination. As long as you are close to Duval Street (Old Town) you will be close to the parties.
