Best Waterfront Restaurant in Marathon

Two words - Keys Fisheries. It's been a long time since I have taken the time to write a rave review about a restaurant, but I really have to say... this place is INCREDIBLE. Not because it's fancy, cos it's SURE NOT fancy! You have to put your order in at the counter and pick up your tray when it's ready... you have to get your own fork and buy your beer at another counter... picnic tables rule the day.

But... MAN oh MAN... this is some fresh seafood. It's actually a fish house - they supply all the Stone Crab Claws to Joe's Stone Crab in Miami (the famous famous one), and it's the ONLY restaurant in America where you can actually get FRESH HOT Stone Crab claws right off the boat.

I just ate a platter of Hog Fish that was UNBELIEVABLE... I mean, Hog Fish is a rare delicacy and I would have been happy to get one nice fillet, but the serving looked like a lumberjack's STACK of flapjacks... big, fat, fresh - perfect.

OK - I'm ranting - but the view is unbelievable, the bartender is a nut who grows his own mint for your mojitos... the people are slightly crazy, which always makes me happy.

Go there. Right away. Turn on 35th street right by the Highway Patrol station - the road deadends in the parking lot of Keys Fisheries. Order some Stone Crab Claws and a platter of Hog Fish... get a cold cold beer with a lime, eat with a plastic fork on a paper plate, wipe your mouth with a paper towel and BE HAPPY!

Ha!

Hi Toni,

Glad ya found the "Spot" for fresh fish restaurant in Marathon!

Since you are in Key West, why not try the two great restaurants on Stock Island for the reason you'll explained!

I think you already know this but there is Hogfish Restaurant & just down the street a block or so there is the Shrimp Shack Grill that does the samething as your post says for Waterfront Keys Fisheries Restaurant! The Hogfish is the place for Hogfish & other great tasting fish!

The wife & I get Hogfish, when its available, most of the time & that white piece of fish is just what ya said, only I grill it here at home.

Thanks for the input & have a great time in Key West at FF which I'd say you are doing!

Shrimp Shack .... Safe Harbor

Stormi, you are so right. If I'm anywhere near Safe Harbor, I'm sitting on a picnic table at the Shrimp Shack. Hey - they just got their beer and wine license, so pitchers of beer and grilled Hog Fish now!

I love Hog Fish, but more for the pool table and atmosphere than the seafood. They can't touch Shrimp Shack or Keys Fisheries, in my opinion, but I LOVE the new Palapa roof, and I love to hang out there. Sometimes, if I actually SEE the fish coming in, I order myself a Hog Fish sandwich. Don't get me wrong, it's usually pretty good, but the other two are just so incredible, they are in a class by themselves.

I live in Key West most of the year... here now to celebrate Fantasy Fest and get the Fall kicked off right. It's GORGEOUS today!
