Winter weather in the Midsouth

Well, it looks like we might get hit with some winter weather overnight tomorrow night. We have that big system coming at us from the Northwest that is going to be bringing storms and 100% chance of rain tomorrow with windy conditions that will cause the temperature to plummet starting during the day tomorrow. The high today was in the mid 70's. High tomorrow in the mid 60's with temps falling throughout the day where the low Friday morning will be only 30. Possibly accompanied by a wintery mix overnight. They are saying very little accumulation for us here as usual with areas north of the city of Memphis getting significant accumulation, as in around the Dyersburg area which is around 77 miles north. Always happens. We never get a good snow, just an icy mess, which no one wants. If this materializes, this will be the earliest ever we have gotten any winter type precipitation. That usually is something we see in January and February if at all.

I think you missed your calling Beach! You should be a forecaster. I guess we'll be about a day or so behind you on rcving the cold weather... but hopefully not too cold!

ambie33, I love cold weather. We are used to unusual drops in temps here. Happens quite often here, especially in December. Had a high of 70 one December day back in 91, temps dropped 30 degrees that afternoon and it started snowing and covered everything within a couple of hours. The weird thing about that day, it was snowing and thundering also. We have tornadic type weather alot of times in December because of the unusual warm in December. I couldn't be a forecaster swn5363. I've always had a fear of having to speak orally ever since in grade school. Did everything possible to get out of doing oral reports. The high Friday is going to be 37. We usually totally get missed by snow here more times than not, one year my mother-in-law, who lives in NE Mississippi got 6 inches of snow and we got nothing. It always seems like the southern half of Tennessee gets very little snow. It's like Interstate 40 through the middle of the state is the dividing line as to who gets snow and who doesn't. Usually everyone north of there gets it. So go figure.

We're under several inches of snow here, everything shut down. Had a few ice storms yesterday, spent the morning replacing antenna equipment outside BRRRR, then ran our office out of Buffalo Wild Wings for the rest of the day/night, as they were the only place open and safe. Of course Jack Daniels and snow don't mix, kiddies, so of course there was no drinking...

Actually, JD and snow mix very, very well, I can't think of a better way to chill a bottle ! What I meant to say was of course with all the driving on ice, we weren't drinking cocktails with sidecars of washington apple and chocolate cake shots all afternoon...

Trishben, we ended up with absolutely no snow or ice. Just had rain. You are probably going to dislike me for this, but the cold front never managed to get in here until very late. The temps here had cooled down to 50 at 5:00 p.m. yesterday and by 6:00 the temps were back up to 64. The warmer air kept the cold front stalled right over the top of us for several hours and ended up pushing the cold front back into Arkansas. That is what our News Channel 3 weather guy said last night. Our winds overnight stayed around 40 mph. Our streets were dry as can be today due to the high winds. There were power outages around the area of town I live in due to the high winds knocking down limbs that fell on the power lines. But nothing from ice. But it sure was cold today. Only in the mid to upper 30's with wind chills in the low 20's. It is 32 right now.
