Icon4 Anyone wanna talk about something aparent?

I say once again Genocide is happening in Sudan! We do nothing about it! Why? What are those poor saps gonna be able to do for us. I think this is a much better cause than Iraq! Please watch these videos. They need our help! And don't even say that this is not a worthy cause! Don't let these people down and don't let the old adage come true: "Nobody cares about Africa"

If you watched the State of the Union Address in 2003, the argument you're giving right now for Sudan was part of the reason Bush gave for invading Iraq.

Yeah, there was the whole weapons of mass destruction thing. But, Sadam was also accussed of (and recently found guilty of) mass murder, including killing thousands of Kurds and other groups who opposed his rule.

Shall we make the same mistake by invading Sudan?

Will you blame Bush 3 years from now when Sudan is another Iraq?

//don't get mad, just playing devil's advocate
//and I don't mean to sound insensitive. genocide is a horrible thing and I agree something needs to be done. but what?

They do need our help, I feel the same way I did about Iraq. I don't feel like a conservative world police force cowboy, I feel like a liberator giving people a fighting chance.
When anyone is hurting in need and you walk on by carrying on what does that make you? Iraq aside these people do need our help and it will take more than air dropping rice & potatoes, people will have to die to free these people. Casualties on both sides of the militia and civilian will happen.

yes I know

Sanctions...

They work. But because the oil is so "important" in Sudan and so "vital" to our "global" economy we do nothing... I'm not saying war. I'm saying diplomatic pressure.

The travesty is that there is is no one defending the people of Darfur. They have no militia, no weapons, and no one in the international community doing anything to help. It is all private organizations. These private organizations can do nothing significant without the help of a government entity. The UN is pretty much helpless because too many countries benefit from the oil coming out of Sudan...

So you're suggesting we go to Sudan to defend helpless people from tyrannical leaders and militias.... without the approval or support of the UN?

Now you're starting to sound like a republican!
