I'm not going to waste much time on ThatMoronTed's long copy/paste post from left wing stuff except to note a couple of things:

1. My mom was a widow with 4 kids all under 16 at the time my dad died. We had no money. I don't come from anything resembling wealth.

So not only do I know what struggle the poorest go through, I know that you can WORK your way out of it over time. If you actually work hard and smart. Amazing how most people I know who dig in and put effort into life seem to enjoy life and do well at what they do!

2. I continue to be amazed that people will yell about how specific corporations are going to make piles of cash, but they don't buy stock in those companies. (Hey, if I knew the winning lottery numbers for next weekend, I'd be playing them). Yet so many on the left can predict huge corporate profits, but don't simply buy stock in those companies.

BTW, buying stock isn't just for the rich. Outside of a few companies like Google, stock shares are often under $50 in many/most companies.

3. Waiting for the proof that we were ever #1 in education in 2000. I'm sure you can cite that study, and link to it for us all to see.

Forget about the lottery: I'd rather bet that Guy Moron can't begin to cite where he got those "facts" from. If Guy Moron can cite an accepted and respected published study that says we were #1 in education in 2000 and then sank to #24 by 2006, I'll be happy to continue this discussion.

Since that isn't going to happen, I just want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and an Amazing New Year no matter who you are, or where you are spending it!

Hi Ted...

There you go calling me a moron spewing hate. You started this personal crap and name calling. And by the way I actually wrote the really long post about my background. It's pretty funny though how you don't have any respect for the words of Thomas Jefferson and his views on taxation. Anyway, I'm gonna end this debate with you because I grow tired of your conservative bantor. I just really don't like to debate people who use the same old arguments and then when it comes down to the nitty gritty they wanna personally attack someone and call them a moron. You'll probably claim some kind of victory as a result of my departure from this convo. I hope you have a Happy Holiday season.

Oh and on your stock remarks...What in the hell are you talking about???People as a whole in the US are in the deepest debt since the depression and you are going to ask them to make their own investments? You sir are truly an ignorant one. I think you put too much faith in you prescious stock market. I'm through speaking of money now. Money is truly the scourge of the earth. I don't need it to be happy. Why do you??? BTW-Vegas and gambling in general hurts America more than it helps.

I only hope you wake up one day and realize that this system in America that you put so much faith in has truly failed us. Well at least those of us not in the top percentage of the US in terms of income.( I am not implying you are in said top %) You are just another person being exactly what they want you to be. Not a responsible citizen. You are a consumer.

Peace...Wake up!!!

Oh that stat, it was on NPR. An economist was talking about education spending in relation to civics and social studies. The average 16 year old child cannot even point out Iraq on a map, in a time of war.(this was actually a really publicized study but if you want I can cite it) Do you really think our education system works? All we teach our kids how to do is pass standardized tests which are culturally biased to begin with...

Oh no it's copy and paste!!!

>>This sir is why we have the most people per capita with high blood pressure and heart disease. <<

Actually, that'd be all the McDonald's and Starbucks on every street corner

<<This sir is why we have fewer and fewer children with the ability to play an instrument or the ability to express themselves creatively. <<

Actually, we can attribute this disturbing trend to video games. I mean, kids would rather buy a video game that let's them fake playing guitar rather than really learning how to play. And do you know anyone who plays WOW? That will be a serious issue one day. What happens when the WOW servers get a virus and are down for days or weeks? There will be mass murders to deal with.

Unbelievable, great minds think alike, this is EXACTLY what I was going to say on both points, you beat me to it...

Hey Supermav, just a note... America has fat and skinny people, lazy and hard working, and everything in between... as someone who is both a born workaholic and struggles with her weight (yay, me though, I've lost 40 pounds ), I just wanted to point that out. Throw in that I'm a woman working in a man's world and I have a hard enough time without stereotyping...

Did "That Guy" ever cite any study that claimed we were #1 in education in the year 2000? (Forgive me, but I confess to not reading through his copy/paste political posts, and links to stuff even he was too lazy to copy/paste).

If he can't back up even ONE of his "facts," then we can only laugh at the rest of the "facts" he is posting.

I do hope everyone had a great Christmas and here's to an even better 2007!

PS Congrats to TrishBen on the weight loss... i am down 25 in the past year, and hope to dump another 25 this year to put me where I should be. It is tough work, but well worth it and my hat is off to you!

Icon7 Hi teddy...

What's interesting to me is that you provide no sources to dispute my assertions. I however do copy and paste and link to things because that is actually what thoughtful people do to support their opinion. I understand your predicament though. The number of people who support your opinion is dwindling so I really can't hold it against you. I post to inform, you seem to post to criticize... You may not read this, but peace and love to you sir...

BTW: Why is it so bad to quote Thomas Jefferson, or to cite a Census study? Because it's facts, and it's thoughtful to do research? You should try it sometime. What's the last book you read, Dr. Seuss???

Post Uh oh, I'm gonna quote a book!?!?

I recieved a book for Giftmas. It's called "Anyway" by Kent M. Keith. I refer all of these Paradoxical Commandments pointed out by the book to teddyinsatansbelly(bka vegas). I won't let people like you dampen my spirits or discourage me from doing good for others.

Kent M. Keith wrote these in the 60's as student at Harvard. They have been quoted, circulated, and appropriated by countless people--politicians, academics, civic and religious leaders, businesspeople, students and nonprofit organizations. They were actually taped to the walls of Mother Teresa's children's home in Calcutta.

1. People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.

2. If you do good, people will accuse you of ulterior motives. Do good anyway.

3. If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.

4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.

5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.

6. The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest of men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.

7. People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.

9. People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway.

10. Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.

Congrats on weight loss....

Hey ted and trishben CONGRATS -- I'm right w/ you! I have lost 70 lbs. and have kept if off for a full year! Hard work but worth it! Keep it up!! (Always wanted to be a sexy grandma! So, 135 from now 'til I push up daises!)

RE the banter of ted's - I'm just grateful that we live in a country that allows us to have different opinions AND be able to say them out loud!!

I like what Tony Blair said:

"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in... And how many want out."

Something else to consider:.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1. Jesus Christ and The American G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

So ladies and gentlemen - Peace and love to you all

Happy 2007!!

Ted and I should have our own show...

It could be called Ted vs. Ted. or Ted & Ted or Ted squared(you could be the square who wears the bowtie)... C'mon Teddy! I could do the research and you could express yourself from that gut feelling that everything is ok. We could be bigger than Hannity and Colmbes or Crossfire!!! It would be nice to get paid to argue!!!
