freedom...

Unfortunately - the execution of a tyrant like Hussein may not seem to have accomplished anything in the eyes of some, but for some Iraqi citizens it provided a sense of freedom from the years of tyranny and the slaughter of innocent people......I suppose you could call it sweet vengence -

Lest we forget that the Iraqi government executed this man -not Americans or coalition forces.

So if you REALLY want to know what it accomplished - I suggest you ask the people who carried out the orders of the Iraqi government. Or better yet, those people who lost loved ones, their homes, their dignity, the list is endless.

One less devil in human flesh has been removed from this Earth - I'm not certain how this is a bad thing....even though "Vengence is mine" said the Lord - if you believe that - well, maybe Allah directed them to execute this serpent.

And...

The civil war rages on...

You can just taste that sweet sweet freedom...

Free to not have electricity, free to not have hospitals because we bombed them all, free to have significantly more unemployment than under the rule of saddam, free to have the US occupy their country, free to have roadside bombs going off in their neighborhoods, free to have a government that accomplishes nothing and meets quite infrequently.

Mmm mmm mmm sweet sweet freedom. Maybe they'll start selling Freedom toast and freedom fries!

BTW-Jesus Christ said that his covenant with mankind superceeds all other previous covenants. His Commandment in this covenant was LOVE! Christ was totally against Vengeance in any form. Amazes me how people refer to the old testament when it is convenient. Eye for and eye was trashed when Christ came around. Sure people need to be punished but is it our place to kill them. We stooped the same level as Saddam when we killed Saddam. Yes we... You don't really think that we weren't holding their hand throughout this whole crooked trial? The gallows was probably built by a US contractor for gods sake.

William C...Ha!

Actually I think Bill was a sellout as well...I guess none of you actually read and comprehend my bantor all the way through. I am not a democrat. I am and Independent.

Oh and on the history books thing, I believe the history books will show that Dubya was a failure who sold us up the river but more importantly they will show that the Iraq war did not win any hearts or minds in the middle east. On the contrary, it will show that we made more enemies than ever before as well as making our position in the world a hell of a lot more dangerous. Even our allies have abandoned us in some respects because of our use of force instead of diplomacy.

I think you're a little disillusioned Super. 70% or more disagree with the war and the number grows larger every day our troops keep dying over there. I think that is pretty much a guarantee that the history books won't reflect too much positive light on the Iraqi Mess-o-Potamia.

Oh yeah and the whole "Iraqi people carried out the execution." Actually a man who was there in the room said he was in US custody up until he entered the room which housed the gallows. During the entire execution proceedings US troops stood guard outside the doors.

There is a 12 to 25 year limit on the classification of documents that our government writes and briefs. This is sad considering Dubya will probably be too old or dead to indict for the war crimes he has commited throughout his presidency. We shall all see one day that he was a self serving and rediculously inadequate president and perhaps the worst president we have ever known.

Post I believe in the original Saint Nicholas...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa#Overview

People need to take after the example of Saint Nicholas. Check out this wikipedia overview of the original "Santa." The US has tainted the image of this truly great man and forgotten his example or true charity.

I don't need a special time of year to do nice things for people. I do nice things every day...

I know everybody probably thinks I take myself or the things of this world too seriously. I say to them that they do not take these things seriously enough.

That was to prevent him from being humiliated or tortured before his execution. And to prevent his body from being mutilated after. Pretty generous in my opinion. Remember - there are millions of Iraqis who would have given anything fo rthe chance to spit on him, hit him with their shoe, prevent the traditional Muslim burial rights or worse. And that was reported by the most liberal media (read: anti-Bush) outlet in the country - CNN.

"No one beat him or insulted him, yet Saddam tortured many Iraqis, executed thousands and buried them in mass graves." Sami al-Askari told state television.

Ted - I'm not sure how old you are, but maybe you are too young to remember what Sadam is responsible for. Attempted genocide. Ruthless mass killings. He was not unlike Hitler in many ways.

The plight of Iraq was very similar to Darfur's current situation, for which you seem to have so much passion. In fact, you have suggested US intervention.

And on a side note - read below that the US wanted to delay Sadam's execution. The fact that it happened so quickly (and incidentally on the start of an important Muslim feast) was the fault of the Iraqi government:

-----
By rushing through the execution just four days after the former president's appeal failed, over the reservations of the U.S. ambassador who urged a two-week delay, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki made good on a promise to fellow Shi'ites that Saddam would not live to see 2007.

Post Who gave him those weapons to commit genocide...

The US. Yet then we did nothing about it. It's strange how we waited over 20 years to do anything about it. Sorry your justification has holes SWN...

What about Tiananman Square?

China killed numerous Chinese students for speaking their mind, yet we look the other way and continue trading with them. The Chinese gov't kills people for having independent thoughts all the time so what's your point? China is perhaps the most Imperialistic and oppressive nations but because they sell us cheap t-shirts we do nothing...(sarcasm)

One thing about the Kill him before 2007...Many Muslim Nations and their people are angry at the Iraqis for the timing of the execution. The holiday is supposed to be a joyous one and their timing was very inappropriate.
