But, one already exists: Political Forum

I thought it was pretty cool that everyone was willing to express their political beliefs and such in the Lounge. I guess everyone just kinda gave up on me. Sad really. I bet that on this forum was the most some of you expressed yourselves openly about the political climate in this not-so-perfect Union called the USA. I realize that speaking of these things can be sobering and kinda depressing but it is very healthy. Once we stop the debate that is when the oppresive leadership in our government have truly beaten us. I have more fear of the powers that be within our government that seek to suppress our liberty than I fear terrorism from a foreign power.

As we stand by and busy ourselves with our own mundane lives and the rat race for money and wealth, our own government becomes larger and more powerful than ever. Today we are not told to be good citizens, we are told to be good consumers. Aquisition of material belongings has become more powerful than christianity or islam or any other religious faction you may claim to be a member of. In the words of our commander in chief, "...I engourage you all to go shopping more..." This was brought up in a conversation about US troops. Is he telling us not too worry our pretty little heads with all this war stuff and just to occupy our time shopping? This is what i mean people. We don't support the troops by going shopping. During WWII people gave up their luxuries for the good of the nation. Now they tell us to spend, spend, spend!!!

Anyway, you get my point. Let us not forget the sacrifices of our troops. We can help them by telling ourselves and our government that we refuse to let them treat us like children. We have every right to know exactly what they are getting us into at all times. Don't be a sucker.

DISSENT IS PATRIOTIC!!!!

Anyway that's it. I'll stop if the consensus is that no one wants to hear me anymore. Hopefully you will not give up on the this not-so-perfect union.

Ted, I wasn't implying that you should stop posting. Sorry if it seemd so.

I was just making the point that we are a travel website... and for us to make a forum specifically for political discussion is kinda silly - only 3 or 4 people would post in it. That's what the lounge is for... just random thoughts or discussion - political or not.

But if a serious political forum is desired, many of them do already exist. And with much more activity than would be seen in a political forum on TripSmarter... knowhatimean?

I won't post political stuff. No big deal. I'm just gonna move along my political bantor to the correct outlet/inlet. I take no offense.

I have been lurking, but I do not peruse the political banter threads. Do not care for them. People are not quick to reply to any posts on here anymore either. Not to mention, I have had several health issues of late which I got some not so good news today. 47 didn't come on for me in a good note at all.

From one 47 y/o to another - middle age bites. I don't know your situation, but mine isn't anything to smile about either.

Going on 11 years of dealing with chronic pain - what I try to remember is that somebody, somewhere - has it a whole lot tougher than I do - that's so much easier said than done I know - but keep your chin up.

My grandmother had an embroidered piece on her wall for years and years - and as a child I never really "got it" - but as an adult - it means a ton....

When life hands you a lemon - Make lemonade....

So corny, so old, but so true....

As for political banter - can't get away from it on TV - so, don't need it here either. I am NOT saying that the discussion doesn't need to happen - because we can look around us and SEE the apathy.

Thanks Nascar8, am battling a sinus infection and ear infection at one time, had a flare up of proctitis, having several female issues at once, having gastric issues, have had a fever of 99.4 with this infection, have had a bladder infection, the list could go on and on. Had a full blood work up last week, apparently all was fine, at least the white cell count was anyway. I think they do their own result reading of the blood work. Been a bad two or three weeks.

I sure hope they do a complete blood profile - amazing what that test can show us about our health...

Beachnut, I'm sorry to hear you are feeling so lousy, I hope it resolves itself soon (hug). The head, sinus cold thing can make everything terrible.

As for me, while I don't partake in the political banter, I don't mind it, it didn't run me off. Simply trying to balance new duties at work, my newfound family, obsession with WoW, Roger's new project (Spring Break is RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER, time flies) and all my appliances dying at once.

Today is a snow day, praise God (so I can work from home! ).

I'm still here.... ......i have been MIA for a bit i guess, lurking...lol....reading about all of the Spring Breakers.

I check in once in a while. Still not a hundred percent.

I know everyone's busy this time of year... we're staying busy just trying to keep up with the spring break forums... not to mention everything else we have going on.

But, thanks for checking in! We'll try to generate some more activity in the Lounge....
