Question Dancing in Myrtle Beach

Can someone tell me anywhere to dance tango / swing / salsa / foxtrot etc. in Myrtle Beach?

Also, where could I get shag lessons? I'd love to learn it!

Thumbs up

It is my understanding that the best place for shag lessons and dancin' holes in your shoe's is Fat Harold's in North Myrtle Beach!

Lightbulb Shag vs Swing

The Shag is one-of-a-kind, but it is a 'couples' dance ... if you love to Swing, you will love to Shag! Go check it out!

Hi Carol... shag is a lot like swing, but it's a more individually styled dance. The 6-count, basic pattern dance with modified footwork centers all the action below the waist... The thing to remember with shag dancing, though, is how seriously it's taken.

Phil Sawyer, President Emeritus of S.O.S. (Society of Stranders, a Myrtle Beach shagging society) told us that "Serious shaggers are in a lifestyle, which goes way beyond the dance, it's a camaraderie thing," and that seems like the best way to describe it.

Hi, I'm wondering if there are any shag tournaments in town? I just learned the dance last spring. Our friends from Little River, SC taught us and we want to visit them when there is a shag event. Thank you.

Well, the S.O.S. Fall Migration is happening right now, although it is, I imagine, quite a bit subdued given the tragic events of last week.

The Society of Shaggers hosts several Shag events throughout the year... the Mid-Winter event, to be held January 17-20, 2002, and the SOS Spring Safari on April 12-21, 2002.

If you enjoy Shag dancing, I encourage you to try one of these Society of Shaggers events. The folks who participate are wonderful, full of life, and generous.
