Crescent Shores/Condolux mess

This August I took the family to MB for the 8th time. We have previously stayed in various condos such as Kingston and Lands End and have always had a great vacation. This year we stayed at Crescent Shores through Condolux. The condo itself was very nice. The south pool was usually very crowded due to it being long but very narrow. The lazy river was also usually crowded. The beach in this area is very nice and most people from the buildings head there so it is quite crowded. If you went down to the beach after 10AM you had to go at lease 50-60 yards north or south to get some space. It just seemed that the amenities weren't big enough for the size of the buildings. With 18 floors and about 15 condos per floor and only 3 elevators people waited in line at check in for up to 45 minutes to go up.

The real problem occured later in the week. At about 5:30 PM our electricity went out. This occured moments after the water was restored after being off for a few hours. At first we thought this was part of the maintenance work but after looking outside we realized that others had electricity. After checking the circuit breakers in the condo and the building we were told by the condo staff that the power company, Santee Cooper, had shut off the electricity and locked the control box. We called Condolux's after hours line to report the problem and left the message on the emergency recorder. No one returned our call. We called and left another message and stated that we were going to have to leave if the problem was not addressed. Again no one returned our call. At about 6:45 PM were were called by the condo staff informing us that they were able to contact someone from Condolux and that it was a payment problem and that the power would be restored in about 30 minutes. After 45 minutes of inactivity we spoke to the condo staff and they agreed to try to get a Condolux representative to call us in the hope of transferring to a different unit. We were finally called by E.T. a Condolux salesman who explained that the unit had recently been sold and the new owner failed to sign a contract with Santee Cooper for power. While on the phone with him a service man from Santee Cooper arrived at the unit with a contract. Mr. Thomas instructed us to sign the contract. When told that we would not sign an electric contract he told us to sign his name. Aside from being a forgery, the Santee Cooper representative would not let us sign any name but our own. We informed E. T. that if he needed to sign the contract or fax it to the owner. He refused and informed us that he was already doing us a favor by making this phone call. We then had no choice but to depart.

Since then I have tried to get Condolux to refund us for the 2 nights we were not there but they keep giving us the run around. I'm sure I'm eating the $730 for those 2 nights as it is not worth getting a MB lawyer to sue Condolux for negligence in renting a unit knowing that there was no electric contract.

Hopefully this saves someone else from getting cheated as we were.

golf121 is on a distinguished road
Crescent Shores/ Condolux is a very good company.

I could not disagree more with this post from 2004. Obviously this rental company has a huge following and has great condos for rent. It sounds like this family was ready to go home early. Maybe a little patience in that situation would have gone a long way. They did say the condo was really nice however and I agree with that remark.
