I was recently fascinated to learn that where the State Supreme Court now stands was once the corner of St. Louis and Exchange where a little pub introduced New Orleans to a strange new-fangled beverage called, “beer!” For a very long time, this was the only place in the state where you could buy “beer!”
But, fortunately, that is not the case today… today, the 300 block of Exchange Alley offers several wonderful places to sit and enjoy a nice frosty beer… or an elegant glass of wine… the Alley is home to a variety of fascinating art and antique galleries, several of the French Quarter’s most popular restaurants, including the award-winning Pelican Club and some of the city’s finest residences… including the one-time home of famous French Impressionist, Edgar Degas and the current day residences of several notable New Orleans celebrities. It’s called Exchange Alley… between Royal and Chartres… Conti and Bienville… the perfect place to take a stroll back in time. |

Is that the same exchange alley that your live cam is on?

We've been staying on the alley for three weeks, and eventhough Summertime is usually slow time for New Orleans, it's been hopping! The little cafes that you can see on the live cam have been slammed! Last night the alley was elbow to elbow with partiers at the Pelican Club till midnight... fun fun fun!

I wish your camera there showed a little more detail. It's nice seeing the flags wave, but a closer shot would be more fun. Essentially the shot doesn't change. You can't see what the folks are up to.

I gotta say, ftimmy, I like the shot. It has a old world feel about it, like you're looking down some forgotten side street in a bustling metropolis at boulevardiers who've the sense to step outside the main stream of city life and take a few moments to unwind and let the necessities of life drop away while enjoying its more ephermeral joys.
'course, I could be reading alot into the view. |

I don't know about all that SmokinJoe. Its a pretty cool shot though. It really reminds me of New Orleans and partying on Bourbon street and then staggering over to Ricks to watch the girls shake! Gotta go back.

I believe I have to agree with SmokinJoe on this one, slomo! I have the live cam open now, and it really does look as if it's showing some little side street in Paris or Nantes. The sky (what you can see of it) is slightly overcast and everything looks fresh from an afternoon rain shower. Tres chic!
