Question NOLA - boring or what?

Hi,
we are planning a trip with 10 german students to New Orleans in August accompanied by a tv-team for about a week. This trip is mainly undertaken to get some extraordinary tv-footage of the city.

And right here the problem starts:
As tv always is eager for impressions that are more or less spectacular, extraordinary, flashy, newsworthy and so on I´d like to ask you for some informations that meet these criteria.
The context should be 'party" in all references as well as everything that is apart from the typical mainstream representation of New Orleans, at best fancy events, clubs, weird ("shocking") trends, habits, persons or other attractions that are able to activate media interest.

In short: Everything that leads off the beaten path, that is extraordinary, funny, challenging (e.g. adventure, luxury, VIPs, “urban jungle”, everything that is really hot) would mean a great help to us.

Thanks in advance and kind regards from Germany,

Markus

TV Footge for Markus

Markus,
N.O. is a 'target-rich' environment for what you're looking for.
I'd suggest going to some of the bars/clubs in Foubourg Marigny. This is the neighborhood adjacent to the French Quarter, just on the other side of Esplanade Ave. (you'll know what I'm talking about when you get here).
Places like the R-Bar are locals' hangouts. Cafe Brazil, Blue Nile and Snug Harbor (live jazz) are all around Frenchman Street.
Check out these places for sure.
Uptown you have places like Snake-n-Jake's and F&M Patio Bar on Tchoupitoulas St after 4am. They get going late.
Alternative lifestlyes are commonality here in N.O., so you won't have a hard time finding something unique that's not your typical French Quarter/New Orleans b-roll. Just make sure that you venture outside the French Quarter. N.O. has lots more to offer than just Bourbon St.
Email me if you need more info. Gene@Tripsmarter.com
