New Orleans version of Antiques Roadshow

Okay, so it is not the Antiques Roadshow... but it is close. Every year, the Louisiana State Museum holds Antiques & Collectibles Appraisal Day, where people can bring in treasured heirlooms, collectibles, or interesting items bought at yard-, and estate-sales to be appraised. For $10, an appraiser from Neal Auction Company will give an estimate on the value of the item presented. People can bring up to 5 items, and the cost of an appraisal after the first item is $5. In events past, many valuable items have been discovered, including paintings valued between $20,000 and $50,000! The event takes place January 25, at the Lakeside Shopping Center on Veterans Blvd. Because of the event's popularity, limits may be set in specific categories, so come out early!

Antique Appraisals

Thanks Colleen. Good info.
Most people born in New Orleans tend to stay in the New Orleans area for much of their lives.
So, plenty of familes around here have their great-great grandfathers whichamadiggy and their Great Aunt's whatchamadoodle.....and so on.
Sometimes people find out that the stuff they've had packed away in the garage for the past 20 years is worth some real money!
Neal is a reputable operation. Been around for a long time.
Now is a chance for anyone to find out what
"Oh...That old thing....." is actually worth money-wise.
But, then again...family heirlooms are often priceless anyway.

Plus, January is a great time of year in N.O......The Carnival Season officially kicked off today at Gallier Hall....
Happy Mardi Gras!
-Gene
