FRENCH QUARTER GROUPS TO SPONSOR
NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN-UP NOVEMBER 18 & 19 French Quarter business and resident groups will come together in a show of community support to lead the citizens of their neighborhood and area volunteers in a major clean-up of the Vieux Carre on Friday and Saturday, November 18 & 19, 2005. GOAL: Bring out businesses, residents and property owners to clean up the French Quarter in time for the holiday season. Making a concentrated effort in order to have bigger impact. SPONSORS: The French Quarter Business Association French Quarter Business Women's Network French Quarter Citizens for Preservation of Residential Quality Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson Vieux Carre Property Owners and Residents Association Bourbon Street Merchants Renaissance of Rampart DATES/ACTIVITIES By Sunday, November 13 Put out any remaining white goods for pickup (refrigerators, washers, dryers, computers, air conditioners). They will be picked up between November 13 and November 17. Friday, November 18, 7:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Dumpsters will be placed at four strategic locations throughout the French Quarter for citizens to deposit construction and demolition debris. This includes building materials, drywall, lumber, carpeting and furniture. DO NOT place household garbage in these receptacles. Dumpsters will be at the following locations: Rampart and Toulouse In front of Moonwalk on Decatur Rampart and Esplanade N. Peters and Bienville Saturday, November 19, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Residents, Businesses and volunteer citizens work together in a concerted cleaning of street and sidewalk trash and clearing debris of all kind. Bagged, household garbage will be picked up throughout the day by garbage trucks from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Rain day for this event is Sunday, November 20. Sunday, November 20, throughout the day Residents, property owners and business owners are encouraged to clean their portion of the sidewalks. The Vieux Carre Association will provide sidewalk cleaning machines for the final day of the clean up. FOCUS AREA: Esplanade to Canal, Rampart to the River VOLUNTEERS AND PARTICIPANTS Report to the Royal Street side of the Louisiana Supreme Court building at 400 Royal Street between 8:00 am - 9:00 am. If you are a volunteer not related to a business or residence, a block captain will assign you to an area. Bring your own clean-up supplies such as rakes, trash bags, and gloves. Light breakfast and lunch will be available. Hotels will also provide bottled water and light refreshments at street-side spots throughout the French Quarter. Are encouraged to wear the Mardi Gras colors of purple, green and gold. We are seeking block captains to lead the charge in their respective areas. Please email Elizabeth@fqba.com to sign up.
