Sugar Bowl
Coming to Orleans for the Sugar Bowl (to watch Georgia stomp the Seminoles) with some friends.
We were wondering how early to get in town so that we don't get tied up in traffic and miss any of the game. Anybody know any traffic secrets for getting to the Superdome? Also, we were going to drive home after the game, but have heard that Bourbon St will be kicking Mardi Gras style that night. So we might need a quick place to stay... will there be any vacancies near the Quarter? Thanks in advance, & GOOOOO DAAAWWWGGSS!!!!!!! Tim |

Getting to the Superdome for the Sugar Bowl
Tim C.
No secret to getting to the Superdome.... It's located downtown, actually within walking distance from the French Quarter. So, don't even bother taking your car to the game if you can avoid it. If you're not staying in a hotel downtown or in the French Quarter, the best way to get to the Superdome would be by taking I-10,either getting off at the Poydras St Exit if you're coming from I-10 West, or if you're coming from I-10 East, get off at the Canal St. Exit. Signage at either exit will get you to the Superdome. But, be prepared for some traffic...and especially since there's going to be so many fans driving to town for the game and New Years party. Yes, Bourbon St will be rockin, as it always is....for the Sugar Bowl and New Years Eve celebration. Look into getting onto a balcony at one of the restaurants or clubs. There's usually a fee that includes drinks/food and access to the balcony. It's the best way to experience Bourbon St.....from above! I strongly suggest that you try to get a hotel in the downtown/FQ area. The rates range from $100-$500/nt. Depends on where you want to stay and what kind of budget you have. From a Sleep Inn to the Ritz Carlton...there's almost something for every budget. Look into some of the Bed and Breakfasts too. They have good rates that arent' published. It's good to have the Bulldogs back in N.O. for the Sugar Bowl after 20 long years( although as an LSU fan/alumni I'd rather be there rooting for the Tigers) But, I will pull for the SEC team, as I always do when we're not involved.....Good Luck.....!! -Gene New Orleans, LA |
