Talking Mardi Gras Has Begun!!

Hey, This weekend the Krewe DuVieux started off the Parade season with it's annual 'walking parade'. Hundreds of members of the Krewe dressed up in humerous, interesting and sometimes revealing costumes and walked the 'route' throwing and showing everything they had.
As a local who has never missed a Mardi Gras in my 35 years, the first parade really gets me psyched up and in the mood.

With the Super Bowl taking place during the same week, this could very well wind up being the most exciting and festive Mardi Gras ever!!! If you are planning on taking a trip....anywhere....there's no better place to be in the world in February than New Orleans!!!

Thanks Gene, and congratulations on NOTV being selected as the Official Super Bowl Information Station!

Get your motors started race fans, Mario Andretti is going to be the Grand Marshall of the Krewe of Pegasus parade on Saturday, January 26 in Uptown.

Long one of the world's greatest drivers, Mario is also a funny and entertaining fellow...

Cool Pictures!

Two years in a row I'm missing Mardi Gras and I don't like it all! Will anyone who goes take pictures and post them somewhere? That way I can feel like I didn't miss everything! Let the good times roll!

Mardi Gras is in full-swing!

Did anyone see any of the parades this weekend? Or are you all still partying?! Not being at Mardi gras is very aggravating! Looks the weather is holding up well though. Any word on what's going on down there would be cool!

Cool What Time Is It?

Morris Day and the Time are playing the Zulu Ball on February 8th! This may not mean alot to the youngsters out there, but there are quite a few of us who'd enjoy a show by Minneapolis' funkiest band!

Jerome! Bring me my mirror!

Thumbs up

The Ancient Druids march tonight at 6pm... the parade runs past Lee Circle and on St. Charles to Canal, then ends on Convention Center Blvd at Gallier Hall, around 8pm. They're going to be throwing some pretty impressive 33 inch blinking medallion necklaces in addition to cups and doubloons so get down there and get yours!

The full parade schedule can be found here http://www.tripsmarter.com/neworlean...arade_2002.htm

Smile MTV taping today

MTV is taping their Mardi Gras special today in Jackson Square... and Britney's going to be there! Britney Spears and Carson Daily host the event, set to air February 16th from 1-4pm (ET).

They'll be joined by No Doubt, Mystikal, Blink 182, and Outkast...

If you're in town today, you owe it to yourself to see this one...

Today's also the first Morpheus parade... they're right after the Ancient Druids, and going down the same route... and Charmaine Neville is the Grand Marshall! Now that's real N'Awlins!

The Krewe of Muses and the Krewe of Saturn are parading through Uptown later today. Saturn's parade jumps off at 6pm, followed by Muses' at 7pm...

The Krewe of Muses, like its name suggest, is an all-female Krewe, out to inspire Mardi Gras madness in us all... this is their second year and all indications are their parade will be another hit.

The Krewe of Saturn is a decidedly traditionalist krewe - this is from their description of their floats - "eschewing fiberglass super-floats for expertly crafted paper mache' and the exotic flambeaux..."

Who's marching today, you ask? Well, let me tell ya - Knights of Hermes and Le Krewe d'Etat are taking to the streets. Hermes at 6:30pm and d'Etat (great name!) at 7pm....

Tomorrow some of the biggies run....

"Can'tStandYa" is leading the Endymion parade today at 3:45pm... the first parade of the day, though, is the Krewe of NOMTOC at 11:30am on the West Bank, Isis at noon and the Krewe of Tucks at 1pm... it's a day of great parades and non-stop partying in the Quarter...

Proteus & Orpheus

It's Lundi Gras! The inspired nonsense of Mardi Gras is roaring to a conclusion with tomorrow's final day of parades and parties... today we've got the Krewes of Proteus and Orpheus parading...

Proteus is one of the oldest Krewe's, dating from the 1880's... they're parading today with 20 floats, at least a dozen bands, 40 flambeaux carriers and 32 lieutentants on horseback! The parade starts at 5:30pm on the Uptown parade route... watch for these throws: 60-inch, red-and-white pearl-bead necklaces with krewe-emblemed polystone medallions, and plastic tridents.

Orpheus' theme is Fiendish Fanfares of Fantasy, and their floats, some up to 120 feet in length, with 100 riders... Orpheus was founded by Harry Connick, Jr., who'll join in the parade with several celebrity friends. The Krewe of Proteus jumps off at 5pm.
