Voodoo Fest 2008 Lineup
Voodoo Fest 2008 lineup has been announced! Well, sort of...
The 3 headliners have been announced... and, they are more than worthy of headlining the 10th Anniversary of Voodoo! Voodoo Fest 2008 NIN, STP and REM! Nine Inch Nails Stone Temple Pilots (I've seen STP twice - always a good show!) R.E.M. (what does that stand for?) We'll definitely be there again this year. It's gonna be tough to top last year's show w/ Rage Against the Machine and Smashing Pumpkins. Check out last year's pics and videos. 2008 Voodoo Fest Voodoo Experience: The Tenth Ritual And, don't forget... Voodoo is always on Halloween weekend. Check it out: Halloween in New Orleans

That's a great lineup! And it would've been a great lineup fifteen years ago too. They know what they're doing when it comes to booking headliners.
And REM, the story I always heard is that they named themselves after flipping through a dictionary. So, it'd stand for the usual old "rapid eye movement." |

More bands announced for Voodoo!
THE MARS VOLTA, N*E*R*D, TV ON THE RADIO, IRMA THOMAS, BUTTHOLE SURFERS, BEN JELEN, FISHBONE AND MORE THAN FORTY PERFORMERS JOIN LINE-UP FOR TENTH ANNUAL VOODOO EXPERIENCE
$50 SINGLE DAY TICKETS AVAILABLE BEGINNING FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5; DAY-BY-DAY LINE-UP OF MORE THAN 130 BANDS NOW REVEALED With New Orleans safe despite the dire predictions about Hurricane Gustav, producers of the VOODOO EXPERIENCE, one of the most enduring large-scale music festivals in America, continue on their path to pull out all the stops to mark the milestone of the annual event’s 10th anniversary, October 24, 25, and 26 in New Orleans’ historic and picturesque City Park. Having already announced such superstars as REM, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots and Lil Wayne, the full line-up for the 2008 VOODOO EXPERIENCE now encompasses more than 130 acts including The Mars Volta, N*E*R*D, TV On The Radio, Irma Thomas, Butthole Surfers, Ben Jelen, Fishbone and others. Beyond the aforementioned artists, the VOODOO EXPERIENCE will again pay homage to the rich musical traditions of this unique American city; the acts will perform on six stages in three distinct areas--Le Ritual, Le Flambeau and Le Carnival--each of which highlights a unique side of the personality of New Orleans. This week, when VOODOO EXPERIENCE’s future was once again put in jeopardy (as it was in 2005, when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused devastation throughout the area), festival organizers began to look at other options for moving forward if a worst case scenario presented itself. “As I left New Orleans on the last flight out on Sunday, it was déjà vu,” says Stephen Rehage, founder and independent producer of the annual VOODOO EXPERIENCE. “I remembered all the struggles of 2005 and the options we might have to consider, but not moving forward this year never crossed my mind. From the runway, I sent three emails: one each to Mayor Nagin and Lt. Governor Landrieu commending them on their heroic leadership and thanking them for their service to the city. The third was to Trent Reznor (the first artist to commit to the 2005 VOODOO EXPERIENCE) which simply read: ‘are you ****ing kidding me?’” Three years ago, in the aftermath of the storms and despite the obvious obstacles, the VOODOO EXPERIENCE took place on October 29--two months to the day after the city was flooded. This first live event held in New Orleans was staged as a free daylong concert for those involved in the city’s recovery efforts, along with local supporters and residents. The day-by-day line-up (as of September 3) is as follows: Friday, October 24: Stone Temple Pilots; Erykah Badu; TV on the Radio; Joss Stone; Wyclef Jean; Angels & Airwaves; Reverend Horton Heat; Joseph Arthur; Grace Potter and the Nocturnals; Ben Jelen; The Gutter Twins; The Dirtbombs; Dustin Welsh; Big Blue Marble; Sons of William; King Britt tribute to Sister Gertrude; The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker & Big Sam's Funky Nation; Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra; Paul Sanchez and the Rolling Road Show; DJ Soul Sister; The Leo Trio featuring Leo Nocentelli; DJ Butterfoot; 101 Indian Runners; Marva Wright plus the BMW’s; The Iguanas; Washboard Chaz Blues Trio; Rockie Charles; Man Man; The New Orleans Bingo! Throughout the years, the VOODOO EXPERIENCE has brought together a collection of talent that has bridged the social, economic and generation gaps by creating a unique music event with a commitment to every genre of music while at the same time celebrating the music of the region. This year’s VOODOO EXPERIENCE sponsors are Miller Lite, Southern Comfort, PlayStation, Natural American Spirits, Billboard.com, Southwest Airlines, Marriott, AXE Body Spray and Pickup Pals. great week for music!!!!
The lineup looks unbelievable this year, thanks for posting! Can't wait for my trip down there. New Orleans is a great city for music every day of the week, every week of the year, but the week before Halloween this year, kicking off with Voodoo Fest and ending on Sat. Nov 1st is full of such a variety of truly fun and exciting performers.. I'm psyched! If you live down there or are stickin around the week after Voodoo, Widespread Panic's playing on Halloween and on Saturday at UNO, should be great, and there's some really cool post-show parties to attend if you just don't want to call it quits! Here's some of the best ones...
Check 'em out and I'll see you at Voodoo!! **10/31 @ Tipitina's- Dirty Dozen Brass Band plus Big Sam's Funky Nation **11/1 @ Tipitina's- Hill Country Revue (w members of North Mississippi Allstars n guest Rotary Downs) **11/1 @ Blue Nile- Groovesect plus Soul Rebels Brass Band |
