Liuzza's- Where the Locals Eat
Don’t fight the tourist crowd for mediocre food in the French Quarter, go to Liuzza’s Restaurant and Pub. While visiting Jazz Fest my family made friends with born and bred locals, who thankfully pointed us to this little hole in the wall of a restaurant. We were not disappointed to say the least. The dining area was overflowing with locals- so right away we knew we were in for a treat. Liuzza’s has the best red beans and rice you’ll find anywhere. Another favorite thing about this place are the drinks. $2.50 gets you an 18-ounce draft beer, and their claim is true- they really do have the coldest beer in the city. But don’t leave without a free sample of their famous frozen Bushwhacker, an alcoholic beverage that tastes like a chocolate milkshake. Liuzza’s only accepts cash; if you forget this fact there’s an ATM in the bar.
