Ridge is on a distinguished road
A happy change of plans.

I have a question for those in the know. We always come down in October when the crowds are a little smaller and the weather is still great. This year it would appear we are going to try our vacation in September since we are having a baby in November and my wife probably won't feel like traveling as late as usual. So... how crowded is it in September and is the weather comfortable like October? All information is appreciated. Thanks!

I go in September, Ridge. Yes, the weather is usually great. Of course, September is the hight of hurricane season, but the chances for a specific location aren't going to be much different from September to October. I don't think you would notice much of a difference as far as temperature, as there is always a nice breeze near the beach. By mid September, the traffic has already died down from the summer season. I Don't know which end you're staying on, but the west end will be very sparse of people. You can also go to St. Andrews State Park where the beach is less crowded. It looks like they charge $8/vehicle to enter. I'm planning on checking out Camp Helen State Park on the west end this year.

If you're down there during Sept 15th through 18th, Schooner's will be having their annual Lobster Festival. For myself, I don't wait in the big lines for food, but they will have Lobster specials after the festival too. I had a lobster salad sandwich last year that was absolutely the best sandwich I have ever eaten in my life.

Thanks Bob. Sounds good to me. We usually stay at Gulfcrest and hang at the beach there. Not sure when we will be there but Lobsterfest sounds very interesting so we may have to plan around that. Kinda depends on what the doctor says on our next visit. Thanks again for the info!

This is a video that I took from Lobster Fest in 2009. Unfortunately, the color on that video camera was crappy, but you can get the idea of what it's like. Sand sculpture contest, people anchoring their boats out front, some other contests like pulling the kids around on towels, hoola hoops etc., The lobster weigh-ins and of course the feast.

Good song! Thanks for the video Bob.

Ridge, I agree with Bob - things won't be much different in Sept compared to October. Maybe a tad warmer, but that's about it. Definitely check out Lobster fest!

Thanks for the video Bob. Looks like a party to me. Appreciate the good word guys. Still have a lot of planning to do before we settle on the date but this gives us a good option.
