Unhappy Panama City Beach okay for vacay next week?

Hi there! I hope everyone in PCB is okay. I saw footage of the tornadoes Wednesday night as Ivan made landfall at Moblie/Pensacola. Scary to see.

Anyway, my husband and I are planning on vacationing in PCB next week. In fact, we've had our trip booked for over 3 months.
I've spoken to the hotel mngr. where we're staying (Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, on the beach). He said they're up and running, but on tempory power, but should be back on 'full power' by Monday (9/20), at the latest. How is the beach area right now? Are most tourist-related businesses functional? Is navigating the surrounding area possible?
I feel silly worrying about our vacation plans at a time like this, but as I've said, we've had this booked for months, and if we can't make it there next week, we'll have to postpone our trip 'til next summer.

Looking for any info y'all can provide.
Thanks!

Your plans should be just fine. PCB is well on its way to business as usual. Damage was minimal (with exception of a couple isolated spots from tornados).

Have fun next week!

Whew - glad to hear that.
Since I posted my question I was reading the 13 page thread, including updates of the storm while it was happening. SWN - you and several others did a wonderful job providing updates and information. Until I found this link today I was having trouble getting the inside scoop on PCB, so kudos to you and others who participated.
I'm glad things are looking up for PCB, and not just because I plan to be there next week on vacay. My DH and I come to the Florida panhandle EVERY year, so it feels like a second home to us. (We live in New Orleans, only a 4-5 hour drive away from paradise!) We were very sad to see the devastation Pensacola endured. We kept hoping that Ivan would miraculously drop down to a Cat. 1 right before landfall the way Lili did when it hit central Louisiana in October '02.
I can't wait to get over there next week. I always feel good putting our tourist dollars into such an awesome community, this year more than ever.
:)

Thanks Pheebie... I'm glad we are able to help folks looking for info on PCB after Hurricane Ivan.

I'm trying to think of ways we can use the TripSmarter forums to help our neighbors in Pensacola... any ideas?

we have reservations at pinnacle port for this coming week - should we come on down - is the beach still there - ie. no water back to the buildings like after opal - how about the gulf front pools, anyone know how they are?

thanks
