Thumbs down spring break travel alert!!!

Anyone who is planning a future trip to P.C.B., please listen up.... If your present route is as follows: From Phenix City, Al./Columbus, Ga. take Hwy 431 south until reaching Dothan, Al. Hwy 231 south begins here and will take you all the way into P.C.B. The problems begin in an area between (Eufaula, Al)Barbour Co. and the southernmost line of Henry County(Abbeville, Al./Headland, Al.) The Local Law Enforcement Officers are STEREOTYPING, PERFORMING ILLEGAL SEARCH/SEIZURES, PULLING OVER ANY CAR WITH OUT-OF-STATE PLATES WITHOUT JUST CAUSE AND SEVERE INTIMIDATION. NEITHER ONE'S RACE NOR GENDER PLAYS A SINGLE PART BUT RATHER $$$. ALSO, IF THE SPEED LIMIT SIGNS ARE NOT POSTED IN A REASONABLE MANNER(in you field of vision) OR YOU FAIL TO SEE THEM, THEN ALABAMA STATE LAW DICTATES THAT THE MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT IS 45 M.P.H.(very,very important!!Remember!!) STATEWIDE.
Believe me, I spent my share of past A.E.A Holidays on that "strip" so I do know a thing or 2 'bout the "hazards" which ONE MUST TRAVERSE in BETWEEN THE COMIN'S AND THE GOIN'S. Being a local boy moved away, I still recieve my weekly hometown paper and THE NEWS IS NOT GOOD...Between 85-90% of the County's guests are/were passing through to, you guessed it, The World's Most Beautiful Beaches......
Well, that's all. Be careful and bypass HENRY COUNTY, ALABAMA IF AT ALL POSSIBLE AND DON'T BREEZE THROUGH THERE 'TWEEN 1-4 A.M. OR YOU ARE TOAST. tAKE CARE AND gOD SPEED!!! iF ANYONE NEEDS ALTERNATIVE DIRECTIONS THEN CONTACT: AAA FOR A TRIPTIC OR stogie FOR THE BACKWAY..

thanks for the tip, stogie. the same pretty much holds true for any of the surrounding towns around spring break time. and especially on hwy 231. watch out for the highway patrol.

Question

I hear they're getting tougher with kids during spring break. Anybody notice that?

not really getting any tougher than they've been... the cops on the beach are tolerant of alot more stuff during spring break than at normal times. just dont do anything that could endanger someone's life and you should be OK. and dont sell drugs at the nightclubs... most have undercover security looking specifically for drug action.

but here is one interesting little fact... no more spring break court!!! (spring break court was an alternative to criminal court if you got caught for minor law violations, like public intoxication, disturbing the peace, fighting, indecent exposure, sex on the beach, etc. - and instead of jail time or fines, you were sentenced to cleaning up the beach and other messes left by spring breakers.) it was actually a pretty good idea and kept alot of breakers from getting in serious trouble and having to show up months down the road for court hearings.

but the funding was cut, and spring break court is no more - so don't get caught doing anything stupid!

swn5363 is right, the Beach police and the Sherriff's department are pretty lenient in a lot of ways during Spring Break... seen too many kids in mom's mini-van driving down the street with the side doors wide open while reaching out to grab at co-eds to doubt that.

But they're getting tougher and tougher on drunk driving and open containers in cars. The wisest thing to do is avoid the whole drinking and driving trap...

Speaking of which, did you know that in Uruguay intoxication is a legal excuse for having an accident while driving! That's where the wife and I are retiring to!
