Snorkling/Hiking
Hey guys,
What are some good places to snorkel in PCB. I was reading that Shell Island is a good place by the jetties. Is there any other places I should check out??? What about hiking? Any cool places that I should know about in the area? I say that now, but when that humidity hits me I might change my mind. Let me know if there are any other cool outdoor places also that are worth checking out. TIA |

Hey Noble! There really is not anywhere to go hiking in PCB. But if you plan on going snorkeling, it really depends on what dates you are going. If the water is clear, the BEST place to go is Shell Island....you can go to:
www.shellislandtours.com www.gotopanamacitybeach.com Hope this helps.... the tel number for the shell island tours is 850-234-7245 When are you going down? I'll be there May 14-21 ~Jessica |

Jessica's right... Shell Island is probably your best bet for snorkeling. The jetties at Shell Island and St. Andrew's State Park are host to all sorts of marine life.
As for hiking, she's right about that, too. There are some trails in the state park, but they are more short, walking trails. Biking through the state park is fun. And if you really enjoy biking, there are bike trails up Hwy 79. Crooked Creek TRail - 10 miles - and a 4 mile trail in Pine Log State Forest. Bike Trails near Panama City Beach |

Cool, thanks for the info guys. Jessica, I will be there June 2nd-7th. I did some snorkeling last year on Shell, but we didn't have hardly any time b/c we were on some stupid cruise thing. I plan to just take the shuttle over there this year. Biking sounds fun, but I don't want to haul a bike with me all the way from Missouri. Thanks again guys!

Snorkeling & Hiking Option
If you are looking for great hiking, Cape San Blas (50 mi. SE of PC between just off of Port St. Joe) has St. Joseph Peninsula State Park at the end of it--10 miles long and 8 of the 10 miles of State Park has no roads! There are AWESOME dunes 40-60 feet high and hardly any people!
If you're going in July, starting July 1 is scallop season! What could be better than snorkeling and bringing back a fresh scallop dinner! The State Park has great bay access and a boat ramp too! If you ever come back and want to see a quieter side of the panhandle--look us up at http://www.TheCapeEscape.com! Have a great trip! Wendy Jackson |

That's a great suggestion Wendy... I forget about the Cape sometimes. Truth is, there's lots of cool stuff East of Panama City. It would make a good article for our TripSmarter.Com Panama City Beach section... Mexico Beach, Apalach, Port St. Joe, and Cape San Blas all have wonderful and unque things to offer visitors.

That sounds like fun. I might just have to check that out on one of the days that I am in town. Thanks for the great suggestion Wendy!

The crabbing is great too! We love to go out with string and chicken necks and get a bucket of fresh crabs for dinner! We're going down the 4th of July week and will eat crabs, scallops, oysters all week! Fishing is great too--may add some fish to the list if we have time!
We never miss the Indian Pass Raw Bar when we go--it's quiet the down home experience! Don't miss it if you visit the area! Email me if you do an article and I'll add a link on my site! Wendy Jackson www.TheCapeEscape.com |
