Rumors of What Is To Come.........

Howdy folks,
We have hear tons of rumors about what is coming to PCB and I was wondering if anyone else has heard anything. With the new condos going up and the clubs, old shops and cheap hotels going down we know that the city wants the "Spring Break" crowd out and the families back in. Here are some rumors I have heard from realtors and freinds there.

1. Disney is looking to buy in or around Bay Co..

2. Six Flags is still looking at Bay Co. to build 1 or 2 theme parks. One be a Six Flags Over Florida and the other a HUGE water park.

And this is the newest and biggest rumor I heard so far.....

3. BCP will soon being lobbying for gaming. Florida is lossing tons of money to Mississippi casinos every year and with the talk of slots coming to the dog tracks some people want full blown casinos in Bay Co.

Has anyone else heard any rumors?

I've heard some.

Andersons resteraunt and fishing docks to be torn down to make way for widened Thomas Dr. bridge and new condo's.

Treasure ship gone, condo's in it's place.

I've heard there's so much in the works, that I can't speak about it would make your head spin.

Kinda sad really, sad to see the old PCB replaced with the very sterile, condoized version.

LOL... I had completely forgot about the widening of that road and bridge. Poor Treasure Ship. Capt. Andersons will be back but the ship is gone for good.

I had also heard that the Golf Course on Thomas Dr. is also becoming condos and maybe shops.

A lot of the old landmarks are going. I think we will soon see the end of Alvin's Island Volcano, Shipwreck Island and Goofy Golf.

What is happening to Panama City Beach. Like you said, all of the old landmarks are either gone or going. When I was young we used to go up to the top of the volcano that is now the Alvin's Island. It's really sad to see everything go all at one time.

Its all crazy. If you haven't been there recently, you better get there quick, or you won't recognize a single thing. I think once all of the construction is finally done...it will be nice...BUT thats only if you can afford one of the very EXPENSIVE condo's.

Only the wealthy people will soon be able to afford a week in Paradise. They are running out families....no one can afford it. And they will miss the $$$$ the spring breakers bring in each year!

The thing I've heard recently is that they've already torn down the old Miracle Strip Amusement Park to make way for some sort of resort. That thing is really a piece of my childhood... sad.

I've been going to PCB for many years and enjoyed staying at the mom and pop motels.I'm going to miss them and the great parties.I don't think the condo's will allow the kegs and music.

When I was in high school (25 yrs ago) PCB was the place we all went for Spring Break and on family vacations. My husband and I went back last year for the first time in five years and were amazed at the lack of good hotels and the number of new condos. We aren't people that can afford a condo everytime we want to go to the beach. We are planning on coming down over Labor day w/a friend to split the cost of a condo but it may be our last trip back. I always thought Destin was for the wealthy but apparently PCB is about to be the same way. Too bad, I love the beach but may have to settle for the mountains for vacations from now on! Why the changes?

Just got back from a week in PC. A local told me that the banks are not loaning anymore money out to build new condos due to poor pre-construction sales.

Tons of condos are going up and more of the entertainment spots are coming down. We heard that Shipwreck and Schooner's will closing.

Another $350 million+ beach reconstruction job is under way and will last about 4-5 months.

The first phase of Treasure Island Resort is complete and the second phase is underway. Schooner's is in the middle of this.

Not only are there lots of new condos going up, but lots of new town houses.

Also the little mall across from Pinnapple Willy's is coming down to build another resort.

Well now, that is interesting. If the banks aren't loaning anymore money and all of these condos are going up the builders and real estate agents stand to loose big time. I forsee trouble in paradise. I was all excited about going down in September, now I'm not so sure.

The condos and planned condos are still being built, so there's no need to worry. Just no new loans will not go through until the banks see more sales for the ones going up.

I don't see how they can sell all those units for $500,000 and up each. Some of the new resorts have 800 units to sell. I foresee the prices coming down if anything. There are just too many units up for sale at one time.

Back when my family owned condos, we could turn a profit renting or at least make enough for the condo to pay for itself. Now, there is no way anyone could with the prices that high, plus, insurance, taxes, upkeep, etc.

I doubt the prices could ever come down enough that the common folk could afford a condo at the beach. I can't imagine paying (or having for that matter) 500,000.00 for a place you could probably only visit once a year. Sure, you can make money renting them out but you have to be so careful these days. I wouldn't dare let a group of 18 yr olds rent out my place over Spring Break, I was 18 once! (LOL) Unfortunately with the hotels coming down and the condos taking over PCB will see major changes in the tourism market over the next couple of years. Maybe that's what they want though, maybe they want to loose that "place to party" image.
