Hurricane Dennis :[
My family and I are supposed to be in Panama City from July 16th-23rd. How badly is Dennis going to affect our vacation? I'm glued to the Weather Channel with high hopes... but it's not looking good. I'm worried there will either be a lot of damage, or when we get there, it will just be raining the whole time. Advice, anyone? Thanks a bunch!

Dennis the Menace
We are all keeping our fingers crossed that Dennis slows down, loses power and blows ashore quite west of here.
It's actually going to be a pretty weekend. It's BEAUTIFUL today... low humidity... not too hot. The beaches are gorgeous. Keep watching the Weather Channel, but, remember.... they are a little over dramatic. Check back here, and we'll keep you posted on what is REALLY happening... from Apalachicola to Pensacola. We live here. |

It doesn't look good. Dennis is at 150 mph winds and still gaining. It seems to be turning more North than first thought and the Keys could take a direct hit.
If it wobbles when it hits Cuba, PC could take a direct hit. If so, it will be completely shut down to the public for months, even a year. Opel was a 3, this one could be a 5. Last edited by mikess; July-8th,2005 at 05:02 PM. |

Old Hat
Let's not cry wolf... I've lived here in Panama City for 51 years... through many hurricanes and near misses... We have a home in Key West, too, and a Television station there - It looks like Dennis will pass west of Key West and will slow down and lose power before it gets to our neck of the woods... our staff meterologist tells us that Dennis will come ashore around Mobile as a category 2.
I'm going with that!!!

It seems your meterologist and mine differ a little. I work in television (15 yaers) and our chief meterologist thinks it will lose strength when it passes over Cuba, because of the wind shear and mountains, but will gain its strength back over the open water. The Gulf water is cooler than water around Cuba, but there is nothing but open water in the storms path. It will be a major hurricane (3-4) when it hits, no ifs, ands or buts about it.
The National Hurricane Center is changing its projected path to be more East. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/grap...721.shtml?prob

Luke (gomer333) found this handy little tool.
Just to show how much deviation there can be in the tracks, take a look at Ivan and Charley from last year. They both had similar tracks to Dennis' current track, but Ivan hit Pensacola/Mobile and Charley took a sharp right turn and went across the Florida Peninsula about halfway down. There's really no telling at this point. Hurricane Tracking (2004 & 2005) Thanks Luke... that's cool stuff! |

News13 will stream wall-to-wall Hurricane Dennis video coverage starting Saturday...
Someone once said that "the revelution will be televised." Normally I'm a Beach TV streaming addict to get my taste of the World's Most Beautiful Beaches. I'll be checking Beach TV Local News weather as well as this the next couple of days and keeping my fingers crossed that there isn't much to see.
From their site: -------------------- http://www.wmbb.com/servlet/Satellit...83737220&path= Bookmark this page and check back on Saturday for a link that will provide streaming video of our wall-to-wall coverage of Hurricane Dennis. Media General has spared no expense in augmenting News13 during this period of severe weather with upwards of 20 additional personnel from its stations all throughout the Southeast United States. From meteorologist to reporters... from photographers to internet technicians... Media General has dedicated a significant amount of its manpower to bring you the latest news and information concerning Hurricane Dennis. Remember... check this page on Saturday for a link to our Streaming Video source. This will be a Windows Media Player stream. -------------------- |

I'm so happy to find this board, I have been trying to get in touch with my brother and his wife since yesterday, they live in Panama City. I have been looking for live web cams to keep up with this storm, can anyone help me?
My brother is stationed at Tyndall AFB and they live at Kisling Loop. Thanks in advance for any information. Merlene Last edited by merlena; July-10th,2005 at 01:47 PM. |

Looking pretty nasty in PCB right now, but hopefully only coastal areas will be affected. Inland areas will have to deal with high winds and the threat of tornados.
Schooners' Panama City Beach Live Cams are still up... check 'em out before they lose power. You can see really high surf and LOTS of wind. |
