BamaGal - It's hard to say until we get more reports on the extent of the damage. As the storm moves past us and crews get out to assess the damage, we'll know more. Check back n a couple hours if you can wait.
The attached pic is from Grand Lagoon in the North Lagoon Drive area (that's a shot of roads and yards under water... however they siad that it's not uncommon in that area during hurricanes). They say that it will still rise another 4-6ft as the storm comes onshore. |

TripSmarter.Com is getting hammered with traffic right now... if you experience any errors, try refreshing a couple times. We're working on the problems now.
Thanks. |

What about power outages in Panama City? Are they widespread? I've been watching WMBB online and they are talking like Panama City was spared much damage at all. What do ya'll think? Keep the vacation on? Think everything will be pretty much back to normal by Saturday?

Wow.. you guys actually in PC are being incredibly helpful!! Thank you so much. Please keep us all posted on any damage you see. The news is focusing on Pensacola & not really telling about any damage in PCB. We have vacation plans for the Sunbird this Tues through Saturday. Any info I can get from someone actually there is invaluable.. thanks a million. By the way, does anyone know anything about the Sunbird or the electric situation in PC??

PC Beach news station WMBB said in their news cast that The Holiday Inn Sunspree would be open tomorrow for business and all employees were to report also. I would call them first thing in the morning.

Good news....
Wow! Lots of questions... but I'm glad y'all are asking because it looks like PCB is okay for visitors. Contact your individual resorts or hotels for more specific information.
Damage in PCB seems to be very minimal. The curfew for tonight was cancelled. Most businesses are planning on reopening tomorrow. Power outages have been minimal and I believe almost all customers already have power again if they lost it earlier. The beach and water won't be as pretty as they usually are, but it will only take a couple days for the water to clear and the beach usually gets cleaned up pretty quickly. Beach erosion was moderate, so there may be some isolated areas closed to the public for safety reasons, but we've got plenty of beach left. If you're traveling tomorrow, expect heavy traffic at times as evacuees return to town... and be careful on the roads as there may be a little debris. Panama City Beach is eager to recoup the economic losses from this weekend, so I'm sure everyone will be doing all they can to get back in the normal groove of things. I'll watch the 10pm news tonight and report on any info I hear. I'll also let keep you updated tomorrow as we return to the office and start talking to all our friends and clients on the Beach. ALSO please heed the warning flags as swimming conditions after a hurricane can be extremely dangerous. The storm surge and waves usually wipe out the sandbars temporarily and can make way for a really bad undertow or ripcurrent. Not to mention the possiblilty of debris in the water and sand.
