Had dinner at Pineapple Willy's Friday night on my way out of town. Had the Group Finger basket, man that was good eats for the long trip home. I asked one of the servers what she was doing about the hurricane? She said Pineapple Willy's would be closed Sat. thru Tues. So that explains the no answer.

Glad to hear the area was spared the devastation we all feared.
If anyone has any news on St. Andrews St. Park, please let me know. I'm interested in conditions at the lagoon campground and at the jetties. I'll be calling them later this week after they've had some time to assess any damage, but a heads up would be nice, since we'll be heading that way Saturday (my wife is already packing the trailer). We camp there every summer for two weeks, right on the water. Now, if only the viz would clear in a week or so...the diving ought to be interested and "new".....once the water clears (probably a week after we go home. Sigh). Glad to hear the Boatyard and Schooners should be up and running. Those are regular stops for us. |

I have reservations for Long Beach Resort beginning 7/16; I've been monitoring the posts but have seen nothing regarding Long Beach Resort. What is its condition - structural, electrical, pools, beach .... I have emailed them but haven't received a reply; haven't called as I expect they are really busy. But we will need to make a decision, soon.
Any information will be appreciated. Thanks for the various pictures and all the information. |

I'm pretty sure both the state park and Long Beach are fine. We would have heard something on the news by now if they had any major damage.
Beaches of South Walton have issued a press release here: http://www.co.walton.fl.us/default.asp?ID=2 Biggest news is the Bay Bridge on HWY 331 is open and operating as normal. |

Edgewater usually fares well in hurricanes. I wouldn't worry about them much.
Haven't heard much about P'cola, but the Pensacola News Journal did a fantastic job reporting on the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan last year... and the subsequent recovery. Looks like they are doing the same for Hurricane Dennis this year. Haven't had a chance to read much, but there's all kinds of updates and releases there... and some amazing photos. Just heard on the news that Hurricane Dennis cut a 30-40ft channel in the middle of Shell Island... making it Shell Islands. Officials say they will leave it as is, and let nature take its course. The channel is not deep enough for boat traffic, though.
Check out this cool photo found on Weather Channel's user submission page. Photo Credit: www.weather.com The attack of Dennis. The first bands hit St. Andrews Bay in Panama City, Florida. Comparing Dennis and Ivan
Hurricane Dennis
Intensity: Category 3, maximum sustained winds of 115 to 120 mph Size: Eye was eight miles across. Hurricane-force winds extended 40 miles from center. Storm surge: Estimated four to 5.5 feet. Hurricane Ivan Intensity: Category 3, estimated maximum sustained winds 120 mph. Size: 40- to 50-mile eye. Hurricane-force winds extended 105 miles from center. Storm surge: 10 to 15 feet. Source: National Hurricane Center, National Weather Service in Mobile. Most people agree that Ivan was much worse than Dennis. At least in the Pensacola area. The really good news is that there have been no reports of deaths in the area from Hurricane Dennis. ALSO - REALLY IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE TRAVELING OVER THE NEXT DAY OR TWO: I-10 Bridge over Escambia Bay closed for another day or so while inspection continues http://www.pensacolanewsjournal.com/...507110309/1006 |

I talked to my friends at Edgewater yesterday... they are doing GREAT... no damage to speak of, and open for business... as a matter of fact, I booked some rooms for friends there for this weekend.
All is well! Come on down! |

Thank you for this information. I am an owner at Pinnacle Port and must pled my ignorance that the association turned down the beach restoration offer! I am very upset hearing this information. This is a true lesson in getting involved in the association. (A little too late, I know!) I cannot get in touch with anyone in the office at P.P. so I am clueless as to whether or not my unit- 3rd floor in the last mid-rise building towards Camp Helen is okay. Any ideas as to how I can find out? Does anyone know if people are being allowed on the property? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I think only 1st floor units were affected at Pinnacle Port. Not sure who they're allowing on the property, but I'm sure owners would be allowed to check their condos. This really does seem to be the only building in PCB with any major damage, although it appears from news reports to be easily repairable.
And I may be wrong about the date of the initial renourishment project. One news report said 1975 after Hurricane Eloise and anoither said 1995 after Hurricane Opal. |
