Just got this email from 30-a.com... in regards to South Walton Beaches (Inlet Beach, Seaside, Rosemary, Seagrove, Seacrest, Santa Rosa, Watercolor, Watersound, Alys Beach, Grayton Beach, Dune Allen, Blue Mountain, Mirimar, Crystal Beach, Sandestin, Destin and others):
Press Release from Walton County For Immediate Release Santa Rosa Beach, FL Jul 08, 2005 The Walton County Board of Commissioners will hold a Special Meeting on Thursday July 14, 2005 beginning at 11:00 AM at the South Walton Courthouse Annex located at 31 Coastal Centre Blvd, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the issue of sand coloration on the beach. The beaches are reopening on Thursday, July 14, 2005, but double red flags are flying and water activities are prohibited until the water clears. http://www.co.walton.fl.us Last edited by swn5363; July-13th,2005 at 08:37 PM. |

More good news....
July 14, 2005
Please note that as of today Highway 98 on Okaloosa Island is now open as a two-lane street. THE TOWN OF SEASIDE FLORIDA WITHSTOOD HURRICANE DENNIS JUST FINE Rentals, Merchants and Beaches Are Open Seaside, Florida, July 14, 2005 – The town of Seaside, Florida received very little damage from Hurricane Dennis on Sunday. As of today, the town is fully operational, with rental properties, merchants and the beach open for business. The staffs of Seaside Cottage Rental Agency and other local businesses look forward to welcoming guests and homeowners as usual. All local and toll-free phone lines are working properly. For reservation information please call 800.277.8696. For operational information please call 850.231.2222. For those coming to Seaside, please check your travel routes to confirm street conditions. Seaside’s beach is open as of Thursday, July 14th! While the stairs of our walkover pavilions are currently closed, we have designated one beach access for rental guests and homeowners only at the Seaside Pavilion located beachside between Bud & Alley’s and Roly Poly. This is not a designated public beach access. While the town had few significant storm issues, our beach has incurred significant erosion. We are hoping to work with the county and state to rebuild and renourish it as soon as possible. For any coastal community, the biggest threat during a hurricane is storm surge and wind. The Seaside’s intact dune system and stringent building methods have once again served our town well in the face of bad weather. |

Hey Gang,
Thanks so much for all the information. So from what I gather the beach is fine all but some sand erosion, right? Anyone have any pics they can send me? We're supposed to be staying at pinnacle port in the towers on teh week of the 23 and we've been very leary about coming but thanks to you all you've put my mind at ease so much! I love these beaches and dont know what I would do without my ocean vacation and not just any ocean, this stretch of beaches is by far the most beautiful!! Thanks!! Debbie |

Debbie,
My son and his wife are staying in my mid-rise unit at Pinnacle Port this weekend. He called this morning to say the beaches are pretty rough but everything in my condo is fine. Our end of the beach took the greatest "beating" from Dennis since we had not "recovered" from Ivan last fall. Please contact Pinnacle Port though because they were having an emergency board meeting on Saturday to see when they could safely allow guests to be on the premises. I would not want to tell you to cancel your reservations at this point I would definitely call. Take care. Jaynie |

Inlet Beach and Panama City Beach
Does anyone know the condition as to any work being done to repair the dunes and sand along these stretches of beach? Supposed to be there Labor Day week and have seen damage pictures of all of Walton County and Bay County erosion from right after Dennis. Thanks for any current update along those two areas.
