Seaweed?

Hi! Thanks for the wonderful forum. We have visited PCB 4 times in the past 5 years and will be coming back to Edgewater on Saturday. We know it is hit or miss with the seaweed. 2 years ago it was very thick the entire week. We have also seen how beautiful and clear it can be. Did the hurricane stir up the seaweed or clear it out? Thanks for any help.

THE TOWN OF SEASIDE FLORIDA WITHSTOOD HURRICANE DENNIS JUST FINE

Rentals, Merchants and Beaches Are Open

Seaside, Florida, July 14, 2005 – The town of Seaside, Florida received very little damage from Hurricane Dennis on Sunday. As of today, the town is fully operational, with rental properties, merchants and the beach open for business. The staffs of Seaside Cottage Rental Agency and other local businesses look forward to welcoming guests and homeowners as usual.

All local and toll-free phone lines are working properly. For reservation information please call 800.277.8696. For operational information please call 850.231.2222.

For those coming to Seaside, please check your travel routes to confirm street conditions.

Seaside’s beach is open as of Thursday, July 14th! While the stairs of our walkover pavilions are currently closed, we have designated one beach access for rental guests and homeowners only at the Seaside Pavilion located beachside between Bud & Alley’s and Roly Poly. This is not a designated public beach access.

While the town had few significant storm issues, our beach has incurred significant erosion. We are hoping to work with the county and state to rebuild and renourish it as soon as possible.

For any coastal community, the biggest threat during a hurricane is storm surge and wind. The Seaside’s intact dune system and stringent building methods have once again served our town well in the face of bad weather.

I was at Schooner's just last night, and the seaweed is only in a few thin rows on the beach. Not in the water, and not bad at all. Maybe the winds blew it off somewhere else! Water looked wonderful. YOu'll love it!

Going to PCB area for the first time next Saturday for a week. What are some of your favorite things to do? We will have 4 adults and 5 kids, 2 of which are teenagers. Would love some input.

Thanks

Things to do in Panama City Beach

What a question!!! There is SO much to do here...
Let me try to summarize a few of my favorites. I've lived here as a kid... and, now as a 51 year old adult, and I don't know which is more fun.

With kids (teenagers):
Rent waverunners and go for a 1/2 day ride - it's amazing, and you WILL see dolphin
Rent a pontoon boat and cruise to the end of Shell Island - it will take all day - pack a picnic... swim, snorkel, go crabbing and floundering.
If the teenagers want to meet other teenagers, there are lots of places to do that - Shipwreck Island Waterpark is a great place to spend the day.
Go to Spinnaker for lunch and hang out on the beach.
Go to Schooners for lunch or early dinner and hang out on the beach.
Go to Pineapple Willies... same thing. The adults can grab a waterfront table, and keep an eye on the kids strolling/playing on the beach.
I hear Rock It Lanes is fun, too, and there are lots of amusement rides, etc....

Hope that helps!

As I've told several people who have asked, there is a group named "Clutch" that plays the "Breakers" several nights a week. They put on a 3 hour stage show that can be enjoyed by all ages. My kids grew up on it, and have always insisted that we see them every year that we are there. They're now adults, and we still have to see them perform every time that we are in PCB. They start with the 50's and work their way up to present time. And they engage the audience the whole time. If you like all kinds of music, other than say, just rap or something, you'll enjoy this.
