Jelly Fish or Stingray Problem?

Hello - My family is planning a visit to Panama City Beach 7/31 - 8/4? Are the jellyfish or stingrays bad at this time of year?

If so, are there any hints on how to deal with these problems?

Jellyfish

I have seen no evidence of either lately...
about 3 weeks ago, there was a 'migration' of stingrays... beautiful 'herds' of them flying by in the surf... they didn't bother anyone. Swimmers were trying to play with them, and they just glided around them, unpreturbed.

It was very cool... but, they are gone now.

We just returned after staying a week at the Summit and I didn't see any jelly fish. There were some sting rays but they just swam around everyone. I was told they wouldn't hurt you unless they feel threatened.

The Summit was Ok, we rented from an owner and our room was nice. If you want a chair by the pool plan to get up early, by 8am all the chairs were taken by towels despite the sign that says towels do not reserve chairs. Dennis broke the wooden deck onto the beach, they were repairing it while we were there. They were also replacing the roof but we didn't notice any noise from the construction workers. The beach was great and the ocean was clear. They have new elevators but during the busy times of the day when everyone was going to dinner or to and from the beach they were a little slow.

About those stingrays....

They aren't. I was in PCB for the last two weeks. It was great.

The schooling rays you see around PCB are harmless (cow rays). I saw only a couple of stinging jellyfish and had no problems.

The dredges have moved back into the jetties pass to clean the bar out on the east side and move sand about two miles west to shore up some condos. The water clarity was only affected a little right around the jetties when I was there, but I heard that the beaches where the sand was being pumped ashore were closed. I doubt it is a big area.

Don't let the critters keep you away!
