Quite a bit late on this, but figured I can answer some of those questions.
The track was damaged pretty substantially during Hurricane Ivan, but it seemingly didn't matter since they were in negotiations around the same time with a company that was going to buy them out and build a condo complex on top of it (everything was already boarded up and 'coming soon' signs were posted streetside). By the time May rolled around and the two sides couldn't agree, they decided to open the golf course back up to at least generate some revenue (and give folks something to actually DO on the beach besides lay out and give their skin a nice precancerous glow...lol). The track suffered roof damage, lingering flooding issues (a wet Spring combined with the swamp behind it, and worst, the giant fuel tank to gas up all the cars had to be taken out. Not to mention there's a huge problem with finding good help in this town, especially for mechanics to work on the karts.
As it stands right now, it looks like the track is done for. It's in miserable shape, and would take quite a bit of cash and effort to get it running again. Not saying it would never happen, but it would take new ownership that wants to keep it going...the owner is a lady in her mid-80's. The golf course reopening depends on what happens with the sale, if it's ever going to happen. I'm hopeful, however, due to the oversaturation of condo complexes and lack of new entertainment facilities on the beach, that they will stay open another year.
