My first time to PCB in a long time. Have been going to Destin for 18 Years. Had to change due to Dennis. We are staying at the Summerhouse condos. Just wondering if anyone can give me any info on this property. Thanks Louisianaman

We have stayed at Summerhouse 4 times. Two with a "wrap around" unit which I highly recommend if it is in your budget. The other two times were in the "A" building. It is better a few floors up, the lower ones don't allow much of a view and can be a little loud. The people at the desk (kudos to crystal, she's the best!!!) and the support staff are always very friendly and helpful. The only draw back I can think of is the elevators. They are slow, very overworked and fail frequently. The maintanence people are on it immediately if there is a problem. This year, since Dennis, the beach is "flat" for lack of better terms. The sand has washed away about what I would guess is about 8 feel lower that past years. It was packed and not real "fluffy". There was a lot of dredging going on farther East of Summerhouse like towards St Andrews State park and I know it was making it's way West down the beach. I hope it doesn't interfere too much with your vacation. I absolutley love PCB, have close friends who live in PC proper and totally plan on moving there in about 4 years..........have a great time.

Thanks for that report, sunset. As far as dredging, it moves really slowly, and even if it's right in front of your hotel, it's not that bad... when we learned they were going to be dredging in front of Schooners on July 4th weekend, we were really upset, but.... actually, it wasn't that bad. The actual pumping takes place way off shore, and they built a little dune over the top of the pipes, so you could just walk over the top of them to the water.

They had just finished the job when Hurricane Dennis hit, and then, we were REALLY glad they had done it! Saved Schooners from any damage...

Anyway, just a note to let you know that the beach renourishment efforts shouldn't interfere too much with anyone's vacation. If they do happen to be working in front of your hotel or condo, come down to Schooners and play on the beach!
