Thinking about coming here..

Just to let you all know if your coming here between now and september it's the height of the hurricane season so keep that in mind. Avoid it if you can and come down here in October onwared. The weather is nicer and you will enjoy it more. So if you want to plan on that family vacation here do it later this year. Unless something drastic happens it should be nice here with temps in the 80s and good clear skies at night vs this crap were having now.

Ohh and did I mention that the hotel rates are cheaper too?

Rob

Hurricane season

We always come to PC Beach and twice we have come during July and once in September and we are due to be there next weekend for the Labor Day week. The week we were there in September was perfect two years ago. There already have been a total of four hurricanes from June through July which is unusual so there is no good time to guess when a hurricane is going to develop apparently. The hurricane season runs through November. Lately, it has been just schedule something and take a chance that nothing will develop. We like to take a waverunner ride and some of them stop running after Labor Day week, some not. I already know there is another tropical system 13 out in the Atlantic now near the Lesser Antilles. Hope if that develops it comes behind us after we have come back home. We are 509 miles north of Panama City Beach and we are supposed to have heavy rain and flooding from Katrina ourselves Monday night into Tuesday afternoon.

We are also coming this weekend (sat-tues), staying at the edgewater. We also came 2 years ago for Labor Day and everything was perfect. Weplan to do some parasailing and rent a pontoon boat. Does anyone know what restaurants are near Edgewater. This will be our first time there.

Hurricane Katrina

Stitch, we are watching this one with interest. They are saying PC Beach could have 20 to 25 foot wave height with more beach erosion. They cannot take anymore. And they are 298 miles from the center of the storm. I am going to call the person today we are renting from and ask him if he knows anything about their conditions. He already has no dunes left and he lost his walkover. What area of Memphis? We are going to get hit with alot of rain ourselves possibly.

PC Beach is fine!

We were at Schooners last night watching the waves... awesome and beautiful. Lots of sand blowing around, but, nothing serious.

Our poor neighbors to the west of us - Biloxi... they are taking the brunt of it. It appears New Orleans is going to miss the full fury. We have been so worried, but... maybe it's not going to flood as terribly as it might have.

But, our live cams are still up at schooners, and you can see that we still have our beaches! It's a good thing, cos our Lobster Fest is the 16th-18th, and we have a great sandcastle contest planned.

So, come on down!

Toni, maybe you can recommend some good restaurants other than the ones I named for Sweetpea. Apparently Sharky's isn't as good as I've heard. I was looking through my PC Beach travel guide under the dining section trying to find some well known restaurants around the Edgewater but like I said everything is really pretty convenient around there. I spoke with the people we are renting from and he has already been over to the beach and checked out the situation also. He and his wife already came down for the fall and winter and to tend to their boat and to clean up his rental place if necessary. He says the beach has not been affected yet and said it looked like it was weakening. Do you know anything about Tropical system 13 as to where it might be headed? Thanks.

Restaurants near Edgewater

I'll do my best, beachnut.

Sweetpea, there are a couple really good places near Edgewater, but it's also very easy to get around the beaches, so don't restrict yourself to that neighborhood.

Here are some of my favorites:

1. Angelo's Steak Pit - a real PC classic, just down the road.
2. Harpoon Harry's and Breaker's - also classic and nearby - this is their last year - so if you want to sit on the beach and watch the waves roll in, go now! They will be torn down and replaced with condos next year.
3. Saltwater Grill is on middle beach road and very convenient.
4. There's a great kosher bagel place in the Edgewater Shopping Center Bagels and Beyond
5. There's a new deli just down the road with GREAT breakfasts and lunch - truly cool: Panhandle Bakery Cafe

Hope that helps!

Thanks. We'll be coming from Sataurday thru Tuesday. How's the beach and water looking since Kat. This will be our first stay at Edgewater, rented from a private owner. I'm gonna call her tomorrow and make sure everythings ok.

All is Well

The beaches are fine.
It's been blowing like crazy and the surf has been wild, but everything is fine.

our live cam at boatyard is back up now:

www.boatyardclub.com

(by the way, Schooners and Boatyard and Capt. Anderson's are great places to eat, too!) eventhough they aren't near Edgewater... they may be near where you rent your pontoon boat. You can actually tie up to the docks at Boatyard with your pontoon.

I have spoken with the private owner we are renting from and they say the water is not the pretty emerald green color it was but is calm. And they say the beach still looks as good as it was since they scraped it. We stay at the far west end of the beach at Inlet Beach just out of Bay County.
