Beachnut,
RSS (really simple syndication) and ATOM are better ways of getting information. Say for example you keep up with 75 web sites a day. Maybe for your job, you need to know whatever comes out on those 75 sites every single day, maybe sometimes a few times a day. RSS and ATOM allows web designers to provide a "feed" of their content, like a channel of that data you can subscribe to. An RSS Reader (like Newscrawler) creates a newspaper format, it subscribes to these feeds and downloads them into an easy way to read it. Newsreaders can run constantly in the background polling your site subscriptions. It also alerts you when there is late breaking news. This way there is no typing in http://gotothis.address.com each time you want to check something out. WWWill's turn, preach Firefox! :D |
