BN,
(HUG) I am so sorry, and I completely understand. Our much beloved elderly dog passed away last year, and we went through some similar experiences, putting off vacations and changing our plans. Pepper developed Cushings Disease late in life, so the knowledge that boarding him would make him sicker made it a non-issue, we put his needs above our own. Our thought was "we can always take vacation, the time he's with us is short". |

Pets
A very touching story and i fully understand your feelings on this. I had this same problem a couple years ago. I didnt want to leave my dog as she was 15 yrs old and blind at that point. I called around and was able to find an owner at Horizon South that was VERY understanding. I took her with us and she was passed away a month later. You still may be able to find someone willing to take a chance. You may have to pay a pet deposit, but it would be cheaper than boarding.
try vrbo.com and see what you can find on owner rentals Give the pooch a hug for me.

Thought I'd see if we can schedule a couple of days at a nearby state park that is not more than 100 miles away. They have 13 cabins no where near each other for privacy and there is a nice lake with swimming and boating, horseback riding, trails to walk. And from what I am told, they allow dogs, all dogs. Might have to pay a pet deposit but won't be bad. I think our dog would like this. We could take him on walks. Am including the link below to get everyone's opinion!http://chickasawchalet.com/ |

Completely Understand
I completely understand. We lost our two dogs who were 17 years old in March----2 1/2 weeks apart. It is still hard. We just got back from a trip and it was so strange to come home and they not be here even though it has been several months since we lost them.
I had found a lady who came to the house three times a day to take care of them rather than taking them to the kennel, but it didn't make it any easier to leave them. I hope you work something out. If your dog would enjoy the trip, by all means take him. |

I still cry over the loss of the one that died in January 2005. I thought I would be over it but apparently am not. I have her picture on my desk here at work. It was one of her when she was healthy and playing in the snow! Sure miss her. I know her son misses her also. Well, unfortunately, it appears the State Park no longer allows dogs. They did many years ago but not now. Still waiting on an email from them though to find out for sure. The one area of their site didn't say but I saw something else that said sorry, no pets allowed on another site. Well, it was not the state park that doesn't allow pets. When I went on the Chickasaw Chalet site, I thought that was for the state park. They are two totally different places. The state park does allow dogs and I have set up a reservation for the 3 of us for 3 nights. Yippee!

Last year, my schnauzer was very sick with cancer when we left for the beach. We had rented a condo at the Sunbird and the owner was very clear that pets were not allowed. We debated on what to do and decided to take him with us...hoping that no one would know (the owner lived in Atlanta). We were giving him an IV of liquids twice a day as well as medicines. We knew that no one else would be able to administer those things to him. He was so sick that he could hardly muster up the energy to do much of anything. Schnauzers don't shed, so we weren't worried about hair. We placed a blanket on the couch and he stayed there until we took him out to use the bathroom...the whole trip went well without any accidents. Well, until the next to the last day...the owner decided to show up at the condo to check on some things that had recently been repaired. She saw my dog on the sofa and flipped out. She threatened to kick us out on the spot. She made us pay her $500 cash on the spot. She said that we could get it back on the last day upon a thorough inspection of the condo. She also forfeited my orginal $150 deposit. On the last morning, we called her and she came over and inspected and gave us our $500 back. It indeed put a damper on the trip. We tried to explain to her that our dog was very sick, but she seemed completely unconcerned. Our beloved Buddy died a week after we returned back home. I realize that we were wrong to attemp to sneak him in against the rules, but to this day, even though we went through the ordeal, we are very grateful that we had those days with him. This year, we plan to go back in September (obviously in someone else's condo!). We have a new puppy...we will be boarding him at our vet.
I feel your pain. Good luck. |

Sugar Sands motel I believe accepts pets, if it were me I would call and cancel my reservation and book somewhere that does accept pets. There is no way I would leave my dog that was sick, you can always take vacations.

Sapphire
Here is the picture of Sapphire that died in January 2005. She was the baby I got from the pound. I had deleted the picture of Mo. Jr. out as it would put nothing but a link. My husband did this so I will do the other one now.
