two weeks of eating
Here is a breakdown of where we ate on our 2 week vacation
Saturday: Los Rancheros – We decided to eat nearby and something simple our first day here. We always eat here and like the food. There is probably better Mexican food around, but we like it here. Good food and good prices. The had excellent chicken wings believe it or not. Sunday: Hammerhead Fred – Normally we go here at the start of our vacation. Nice vacation atmosphere and food pretty good. Out of all the places, my niece had her favorite meal here. Some type of chicken entree. I got the grouper sandwich and it was ok, Monday: Schooners – Another place we always go. We love the atmosphere and the music is always fantastic……except this time. First time we have not liked the music. The food is better then one would think. Good food, great atmosphere and great Music. Each time I go in here, I think back about 8 years ago when me and my wife and another couple would come down and look for a place to hand out. We always heard of Schooners……but thought it was really only for locals. Anyway, in those days, we spent out time across the bridge at Thunderbirds. Not too fun, but all we could really find for people in their 30’s. If only we would have tried Schooners. Tuesday: Sweet Basil –Right across from our condo. We always eat here. Normally take out, which is what we did. Nice food. Wife loves the spicy spaghetti entrée. Wednesday: Pompano’s – Our newest favorite restaurant. Years ago we ate there a few times and did not like it so we never went back. Some time ago, while staying at Edgewater , a famous singer was talking to me and my wife and she mentioned that she loved Pompanos’ so we agreed to try it again. By the way, the singer was Lorrie Morgan. For two summers in a row, she happened to be down there the same week. Kind of cool seeing her by the pool each day. Thursday: Frankie D’s – We had take out. Wife had something else since she does not like the pizza. Myself and the kids really liked it though. Friday: Sonny’s – Each trip, I always bring back to the condo a gallon of the bbq baked beans. They are awesome. We normally eat here as well, which we did on this day. They have a nice all you can eat menu and we left quite stuffed. Saturday: Mikato – One of the kids favorite. A fun place to go. Food is pretty good but not real filling at least for me. Sunday: Hooters – I got some chicken wings and brought them back to the condo. I guess I will never learn. The wings are absolutely horrible in my opinion and I knew that going in. I am hear to say it for public record. I will not get wings at Hooters again!.. Monday: Hooks Grogg – Favorite place for the kids. There number 1 place. Actually, they only like it for the face painting and the balloon sculpture. For years, we would go and eat upstairs. Once we became smart, we realized the food and atmosphere was not what the kids wanted, we decided to start eating downstairs at a much cheaper price. Tuesday: Uncle Earnies – Kids want to go here so they can feed the cats. Outside seating is really unique and nice. Good food other then my niece’s. She ordered a pasta dish and it was pretty bad. Say Ramon Noodles. Tasted exactly like what you get out of a box, except this was a bit more expensive. Wednesday: Calypso – By far the best Grouper sandwich I have had. Excellent!!!!! I knew going in because my brother recommended it in the past. Huge huge sandwich and under $10. Thursday: Montego Bay – We normally do not eat here but we did this day. Food is ok I guess but nothing to get too excited about. Friday: Boatyard – We decided to give this place another try. Not too impressed a couple times earlier but it was new. Nice setting and different crowd I thought. Not a bad crowd, just different. Bar area was really crowded. It looks like the menu is really nice. Have some fun and interesting items. For the most part, our group liked the meal, except me…….I always seem to order the wrong thing. Anyway, I got the fried shrimp. It came and I just looked at it and said nothing. My 8 year old son said, dad, why did you get popcorn shrimp……I didn’t but it sure looked like it. Tiny tiny tiny and for $18. Anyway, I ate them in about 45 seconds and ordered me some rice and beans. These were really good. Like always, I order the wrong thing. I should have ordered something else. We will give this place another try because like I said, there menu does look good…..but, if you are hungry, do not get the ‘you can live without them shrimp”, because you can. I am going to put some more things about our vacation in a minute. |

I agree, that is why I always orderd the pulled pork at Sonny's

Well, we do not eat pork and we ordered the beef which was thin paper slices of lunchmeat looking stuff. They serve beef barbecue here that is chopped covered with slaw and bbq sauce, sides of fries and baked beans. We had to pay for sides of slaw. Does Sonny's automatically put the slaw on pulled pork??? Ever eaten their bbq chicken???

Pompano’s
Glad to hear that Pompano's is your newest favorite restaurant. We were like you....ate there a few years ago and didn't like it. Since we love sushi and they now have a sushi bar, we are planning to eat there while we're down for the long Labor Day weekend. Hope we are as pleased as you. |
