Some more tidbits

Here is a list of things we liked and disliked on our 2 week vacation

Like always, we stay at Edgewater Beach Resort….Fantastic place and have been going her for the last 10 years. As most probably know, the pool is awesome. They have a restaurant near the pool so lunch is always available. Something I did not like that happened here was at the start of our second week, I noticed a SUV (Escalade) was parked where I always try to park (Close to the stairs and on the side of the pool). Anyway, I was going to park next to it, but there were two orange pylons blocking the open spot next to it. Immediately, I thought, this person put them there to keep people from parking next to their Escalade. I got out to move them, but thought, there is a manhole there maybe it was legit, so I parked elsewhere, but was going to watch. About 5 hours later, the pylons were gone and another SUV was parked in the place. So, the Escalade, was saving a place for their friends, who also were from Tennessee. I know this true because I would see them on the balcony together. Anyway, I know knew for sure and was waiting for them to leave. The second day, I noticed the Escalade was gone as I was leaving. BUT, the orange pylons were in the place of where it was parked so they were saving their place. We went ahead and left……but the pylons DID mysteriously disappear and the saved spots were no longer saved. This did really irritate me how people would actually do things like that. If you want to stay at Edgewater, let me know, I can probably get you a good deal

Like: Home Made Ice Cream Shoppe – The best ice cream we have ever had. Down by Fountain Le Bleu.

Like – Chicago Dawgs – Great coney dogs, but the owner is a bit crabby it appears haha. No matter how crabby, will always get me some dawgs.

Like – Ebro – Used to be more fun when I was younger, but still go a time or two. I would love to get away and play poker though sometime.

Like – Shipwreck Island – Did not go this time, but we normally do

Like – Alvins – We always go to the large one on the strip by the amusement park – Unique place and brings back memories when we would come down in the high school days.

Like – The Dan Russell Pier – Almost everyday, me and my son would go down to fish in the morning. Only wish we would catch something.

Like – Pinapple Willy’s ribs – Awesome ribs!!!!, but only had them once about 8 years ago. They are great, but only what, six bones in a bucket. Last time I had to go to Mcdonalds after eating here. I would eat the ribs everyday if there was more.

Like – Schooners – Always will

Like - Good service at restaurants - I am known to leave over 25%, but I need my drinks refilled. I am easy

Like – Saturdays going to Capt Anderson’s and getting desert ½ price since they are closed Sunday

Like – Mike Harvey Hypnotist – Seen him about five times. Always very funny show – This year was not as funny, nor as long – but he has a good show.

Dislike – Wal-mart – Normally we live there, but this year was crazy- Attempted to shop 6 times, left empty handed three times. There is always a large crowd and I do not think this year was an overly large crowd, just not enough workers. Publix made some extra money this vacation.

Dislike – Drivers who pull through their red light and block my green light.

Dislike – No matter where you eat, expect to pay $60 or more for 2 adults and 2 children. No getting around it.

Dislike – Bad service at restaurant – 99% of time I tip, but I WILL leave $0 and I have before.

Dislike – Expecting a call back from a charter boat about shark fishing but never getting it.

Dislike Pirates of Caribbean 2 – Saw it and really disliked it. First one so much better in my opinion.

Wished I would have done this year

Eat at Angelos – Have before but not much

Eat at Captain Anderson – Used to be my favorite restaurant before kids. Now seems to be too expensive…..but it is an awesome place. Best French Dressing I have ever had.

Went to Shipwreck Island

Not eaten Chicken Wings at Hooters’

Was your visit Saturday to Saturday? When we went last year we got something out that evening when we came in and waited and went to Walmart Sunday morning and did our shopping. It wasn't that bad then. We have gone on Saturday evening and didn't have a problem at the registers as they always had alot of checkout lines open. But they are crowded because they are a get everything store with cheaper prices. We didn't care for the narrow aisles in Wynn Dixie or Publix. Couldn't hardly turn around on them for the people and couldn't get to things on the shelves for the people and they were out of alot of things like bread.

Thanks for the Update

I am headed to PCB for Labor Day Weekend and appreciate the news. I agree with you about Wal-Mart: every time I go there it is an absolute mess, and they never have enough employees (is that how they keep prices down?).

Good info, luvpc. We are going down Labor day weekend also.
This will be our 3rd trip since Spring. It is a "tradition" to go to Wally World as soon as we check in at the Mariner West to buy groceries and other necessities. It is always crowded but we have been lucky and not had to wait in long lines. Sometimes we end up going there everyday for something.

26 days and counting. I'm ready to lay on the beach and have a few cold ones.

26 days and counting as well!

gagirl,
Our ritual is the same: we check into the Summit and head to Wal-Mart for the weekend supplies. See you there!

wal-mart

I think you will be surprised!!!!!!! I am not talking crowded, because we all know it is crowded in there, but normally they move through pretty quickly. Same crowd as all the years in the past.....except wait is much much longer. The two times I stayed to shop, my wait in line was about 30 minutes. I heard talk from other people in the pool area that their time was much longer. It has to do with not enough people because out of all their cash registers.very very few were actually used.

We never shop at publix because of their prices.........Breyer ice cream $2.50 at walmart 0ver $5 at Publix. I saw that last year and that answered my question......But this year we did.

We noticed an inordinate number of registers closed the two times we ended up at WalMart, lines backing up into the aisles, and I left w/o purchasing... if given a choice, I choose Walgreens and Publix any day, worth the extra money in my book... I would rather pull out my toenails with rusty algae covered pliers than step foot into that store...

I work w/ WalMart corporate and their vendors here across from the GO, and I will tell you that if WalMart corporate had any true idea how that store was run, they would have a apoplectic fit...

Don't worry all you Walmart haters... Target at Pier Park is almost complete. Looks like it might even be a Super Target. A little of a drive, but that's what may help keep it a more pleasurable shopping experience.

Steve, is it an employee shortage though, or is it that no one wants to work for WalMart, because it looks like a staffing issue....

I Super Target....

There are so many reasons why shopping at Walmart is such a bad experience, I don't even want to get started

But I still find myself in there once a month or so for some obscure reason. I usually try and have a few drinks before I go. It takes the edge off.

Super Targets are great I've heard! There is one here in the Cordova area of Memphis. I've heard from alot of people how nice it is and it has everything. I probably will give it a try if and when we ever get back there. Will next summer I hope. And as to distance from where we rent, it is very convenient.
