Icon5 Sea Weed in PCB?

I just visited PCB in August and was surprised by the huge amount of sea weed. I was hoping for the clear water beach advertised in the PCB travel material but the sea weed was really bad. What a disappointment. I was wondering if this is always this way. Any insiders who can provide some insights into the sea weed problem at PCB and sourrounding beaches?

We rent from someone that has a place in Inlet Beach at the west end of PC Beach. From what they state, seaweed is not a problem during the months of May and September. But there is always going to be some seaweed. Maybe what you saw was sargassum grass. Here is a pic! We came one time and this stuff below was so thick that it was difficult to wade through it out into the water to swim. It must have extended at least 20 feet or more out from shore.

We just got back from an end of July trip, and the water was wonderfully clear... BUT in May the seaweed was really thick, so I think it's probably apt to change quickly.

Seaweed is a GOOD thing!

I know it's gross, but seaweed is a natural renourisher for our beaches -- it smells and makes it tough to get in the water, but it does go away eventually! Mother Nature has her ways!

Currently, from my balcony at home, the water is beautiful -- PAST the second sandbar....meaning, that from the curve at Newby's Too and east to St Andrews park - seaweed abounds -- we have had some rain in the last few days which helps -- but if you are coming around Labor Day - we should be in fairly good shape at that point. If you're headed down this weekend -- It's kinda icky.

Actually, we are coming down in 2 weeks....hopefully it will be gone by then!

Beach Report

Just came back from my house - the Gulf is churnin' up - and it's bringing in some stuff - I am in the St Andrews State Park area -- the water isn't too pretty at the moment - however, I would say that once this system passes through, it will definitely help clear things up..always does ..so, hopefully, it will be nice for our Labor Day visitors!!

Enjoy the .... Leave only your footprints please! (That is my fav Florida ad campaign from eons ago)

Slowly clearing

The water by my house is clearing -- slowly, but we will see what happens if we are affected by the TS out there now called Ernesto. If it heads up the Gulf near us, being on the west side of the storm will send tons of stuff ashore....cuz we REALLY don't want to be on the EAST side!

Will give you updates daily.....pray it fizzles over CUBA.

Gulf is kicking up

It's cloudy here today -- when I left for work this morning, the Gulf was churnin' away -- some seaweed -- but we are hoping that this will pass in the next few days - weatherman has promised to post in the Weather in the Southeast forum today --

We are gonna be just fine w/ this storm ....

so COME ON DOWN!!!

I'll check out the beach when I go to lunch here shortly -- and let you know what I see!

I wish I could report better news from my lunch visit to the beach - it's icky -- the sarcassum (I know that is the incorrect spelling - but it's the gross stuff) is about 10 yards into shore -- but if we get some affects from the TD - it'll wash up, dry up, smell up -
but the water will be clear! I kill myself sometimes -- the eternal optimist

So come on down - there is still lots of partyin' that will be happening on PCB cuz it's Labor Day!!! And all us "laborers" actually get the day off!! Well, most of my department anyway!

Be sure to visit Schooner's and the Boatyard -- and yes there are other great places on the beach, but these are two of my favs......

And DON'T FORGET YOUR SUNSCREEN!!!!!!!

Water is....

Well, the water is not looking to great at my place today - some seaweed has come ashore but there are masses of it no off the shore - about 20 ft out -- glob -- then sandbar and okay....

Heavy sigh....

But at least we didn't have a HURRICANE!!!
