Red Tide Mosquitos Stingrays and Jellyfish

I've been reading about these things on the gulf coast and/or Panama City Beach, and would like some information on how bad these things are?

We're staying May 25th to June 15th at the Gulf Islands Beach Resort.

Any info you can give me would be much appreciated!

Red Tide probably won't be a problem.

Mosquitos aren't bad on the beach itself - the sea breeze keeps them away. I've never really had any issues with mosquitos at any outdoor restaurants or anything either.

Sting rays - they are there, but 99% of the time you won't even know it. If you do happen to see one, don't mess with it. I've heard stories of ppl stepping on them, but in my experience, they move way before you even get close to them. I've lived here all my life. spent a lot of time in the water, and I don't know anyone who's ever been stung by a sting ray. Besides, the stings are minor. I'm sure they hurt, but they don't even require a visit to the Dr... just a band-aid.

Jellyfish usually don't get too bad until late summer.

Seaweed doesn't usually get bad until late June.

Most of the things you mentioned are relative to water conditions, weather patterns, etc. So, it's impossible to predict 100%........... BUT early June is a great time to visit and you should have a wonderful vacation!

You are a sweetheart. I've been trying to find out about these things online, but couldn't find anything very specific. Sounds like we picked a good time to go, now I can relax.. lol

I think you will really enjoy staying at Gulf Highlands. We have been staying there for 10 years now and come back every year. It's a very laid back complex with plenty of pools, putt-putt, etc to keep you and your family busy. It's right in the heart of the "strip" so it doesn't take long to get anywhere. We will be down June 2-9 so maybe I will see you at one of the pools! Hope y'all enjoy your vacation!

Hi mcoward
Thanks for that information! It sounds like a wonderful place for my sons to socialize with other people their own age.
Looking forward to seeing you there, my sons are twins, and 16yrs old and hard to miss.

Everything's coming together nicely, I like knowing where things are before I go to a place. This board is very helpful
