New Here...
Hi all!
I am new to this forum, and wanted to say hello, as well as ask a few questions. We are headed back down to PCB in a week, for our family vacation. We were there for a week last year. We had so much fun and did alot last year. This time around we still want to do alot with the kids, but have run out of things to plan..lol. Last year we did "Ripley's", Gulf World, water parks, snorkeled, rented a boat for the day with another family and "semi-toured" the beaches of shell island, and mostly beach bummed. This year so far we have the Pirate ship cruise planned and possibly the Sea Screamer boat tour planned. We plan on renting the boat again. So...here's my questions.. #1-what other attractions are there for children? (boys 7 and 9) #2- are there any great snorkeling spots? #3- where are the best spots on or around Shell Island to drop anchor and explore(water, and beach)? |

Welcome to the forums GaCake!
The Pirate Cruise is a blast and actually very relaxing for the adults... you can just sit back and sip on a drink or two while the pirates handle the kids. For other attractions, try Mini Golf, Go Carts, the Gran Maze, the Airboat or Seaplane at Boondocks (HWY 79), Rock It Lanes, Ebro Greyhound Park, Canoeing at Econfina, and Zoo World. Of course, Shipwreck Island and Gulf World are always fun... even if you've already been. If the adults are looking for something interesting, try the Titanic Exhibit at the Visual Arts Center Downtown. As for snorkeling, the jetties at the kiddie pool in St. Andrew's State Park are full of Sea Life. You're protected from the larger waves... but be careful, the jetties can still be dangerous. And try the "pass" side of Shell Island. It's more protected and you can wade out a hundred yards in some spots. Also good for snorkeling... just make sure you use a Divers Flag and be careful as there are many boats in that area. I've seen Dolphins, Sea Turtles and lots of other marine life around there. Go early and claim a spot because it fills up quick on the weekends. You also might consider a day trip to 30-A (just west of PCB) and take a couple hours to wander around and visit some of the cafes, shops, etc. Seaside and Grayton Beach are especially nice. Lots to see over there. For more attractions, try our Panama City Beach Attractions and Recreation section. Also, this article mentions a few things to do in Panama City Beach. Good luck! Try the Zoo they have an impressive tiger show. We went there 2 years ago right after a tropical storm and I was suprised at the quality of the tiger show. KIds will love it and its a good afternoon trip

I've seen mention of the pirate cruises on this thread. We are considering that for a large family group (kids ranging in ages from 4- 15) while there next week. We did the sea screamer last year with no problems, but I am wondering if I should be concerned about any "sea sickness" issues on the pirate ship. Any thoughts?
Thanks! We are on the count down to the beach! Lynn |

I agree with Bowhunter; the Pirate Cruise isn't bad at all. It's a big boat and stays in protected water (calm) most of the time. You shouldn't have any problems with sea sickness. Just remember to use your "sea legs"
