Red Flag Warnings = No swimming in the Gulf!

After 2 drownings and dozens of rescues this weekend, we just want to remind all our visitors to PCB that the Red Flags mean DO NOT SWIM!

Please heed the warnings. Even the most experienced swimmers should stay out of the water during Red Flag conditions.

Double Red flags have been flying all weekend... unfortunate for our visitors, but it's better to play it safe.

(sorry for all the doom and gloom, but we want everyone to leave PCB happy so they can come back and enjoy the beach again...)

Brian Kern is on a distinguished road
agree

SWN - agree with you, but at some point people needto be resposible for them selves. We were down last year and had double red flags and red flags the entire time. There were numerous people way out in the ocean, so my thought (and others) they get what they have coming to them. Sound ugly, but they need to use their heads.

Just curious, what is making the rip currents so bad? Aer they expecting to diminish this week? How is the seaweed and the weather?

I will be down this Friday so just curious

I think it's mostly just inexperience with the dangers of the gulf waters.

I know ignorance is no excuse, but we're in a position where we can help educate... so we try.

Also, no seaweed yet. Still a little early for seaweed. Maybe this year will be like last year where we had hardly any seaweed.

We've hit 90's last few days... it's friggin HOT!

Rip currents are affected by the position and shape of the sandbar, breaks, wave conditions, tide, etc. Hard to say what's making it so bad right now... maybe someone more familiar with it can comment (weather buffs? local surfers? anglers?)
