I am very much a "virtual local" as I live in the Pacific Time Zone, but very much enjoy watching Beach TV online from time-to-time, participating here in the forums, and using Tripsmarter.com to keep up on all the fun of the Emerald Coast.
You are closer to the area than I am to the Gulf (your profile notes you are in ATL)... So my suggestion is simply to dive in and enjoy being the "virtual tourist" reading the boards here, then to add comments before, during, and after you head down to visit. What is cool about these forums: Whether you live on the Emerald Coast or are simply a "virtual tourist" is that everyone on the boards here is very cool and fun to talk to! |

Thanks for the kind words Ted! I think we're overdue for a Vegas trip - maybe we can talk to Will and work it out!
Gabeachbum - I catch myself watching those cams myself. They're addictive. In fact, I know many locals who watch regularly... so, it seems locals and virtual locals have quite a bit in common! |

I'm thinkin' I qualify as a "virtual local" (LOL, I started to type "virtuous local", but stopped myself just in time!) I check this forum almost daily as well as Schooner's forum & their web cams. Beachview.com cams are great, too. Sometimes, watching the cams can be painful, though, 'cause I'm not there & wish I was!

I definitely consider myself a "virtual local". We've been down twice this year and are planning at least two other trips this summer. If I'm not there physically, I'm there mentally.

We just can't wait to move there! We've been coming there together for the last 6 yrs. but Stitch has been a regular since he was a lil' ****. This year with our jobs and the price of gas, we find that we are "virtual locals". Hopefully, that will change soon. We're planning on coming in Sept. On this trip, we're gonna' check out all the real estate we possibly can. Maybe the job situation won't be too grim.
