Thumbs down Edgewater Resort

We have been a long-time fan of Edgewater. The excellent pool and overall quality have kept us coming back year after year.

Unfortunately, Edgewater is losing some of it's luster. Some things we noticed were some elevator problems, pool lighting (several lights not working) and some maintenance equipment left around the walkways.

Most annoying was the noise. Mind you, I'm not an old fuddy-duddy, but I'm beyond springbreak age. Live DJ's and hundreds of cheerleaders can get bothersome when you're paying $270+/night for a waterfront condo. In fact, some evenings we had to go out due to the loud cheerleading events by the pool. You couldn't even hear the television or have a normal conversation.

I'm sure the resort needs these events as PCB appears to be in a sort of recession, but it hurts to pay near $2K to rent a condo for a week and not enjoy it. We looked online to see if we picked a bad week, but it appears these events are summer-long: PANAMA CITY BEACH CHEER CAMP

That's a bummer. I didn't realize the cheer thing had gotten so big (all summer)

Maybe Edgewater would be willing to make it up to you. Did you talk to anyone?

Or was it a private condo?

It was a private condo. I wouldn't expect any compensation, this is apparently a normal thing at Edgewater these days. The cheering events probably provide much-needed rental revenue, especially for the golf villas.

Others may not find any of this objectionable. After two stays during the cheering events, it has become an issue for us. While other resorts cannot match Edgewater's lagoon pool, there are other options that might prove more enjoyable with all factors considered.

Mrs Peel will become famous soon enough
When we stay at Edgewater, we stay in the Leeward building, which is right on the sand. That might get you away enough from the noise, but you can still enjoy the pools in between cheer events. Long Beach Resort has a lagoon pool, too & is a sister resort to Edgewater. The Long Beach condos have a great floor plan with both the living room & bedrooms having a gulf view. You might give them a try!

I understand your frustration, but as a Mom of one of those girls at the Cheer camp, you have to understand we paid quite a bit of money to be there too. I do think that Edgewater should let people know when they make the reservations that the Cheer camps are being held, and that way you have the option of staying somewhere else if it's going to bother you. I will throw this in...the girls at the cheer camp stay at the golf villas, and this year the room they were in was awful. It was very run down, in need of a good paint job, and they had roaches in their room.

I'm sorry the noise from the cheerleaders bothered you, I can imagine if you aren't used to it all the time like I am it would put a damper on your vacation!

We have stayed at the Edgewater for years and opted to try a newer condo this year (we were in PCB May). We were tired of the Edgewater not keeping up all of their condos, including the ones by private owners or the resort itself.
Old beds, appliances worn out, lights not working, dirty condo, etc.
The cheerleader camp was another thing didn't bother me too bad for the noise because we, too, always stayed in the Windward building. But....I like to go to the lagoon pool and it was so crowded and noisy with all the cheerleaders down there.
They were all well behaved and I am used to cheerleaders because my daughter was one. Kids are grown now though, so no kids traveling with us.
I think the Edgewater should let people know that the event is going on all summer, but they probably won't - fearing in losing more business.

I would complain to the Edgewater about it and also for those that get lousy, dirty condos!
We complained and it didn't do any good. I think that the management is NOT DOING A GOOD JOB.

I heard the story about the Pizza Hut by the pool and someone saw it filled with rats crawling all over - this was during the winter though. I sure hope that was all cleaned up!! That is what creeped me out the most when I heard that.

Staying at the Shores of Panama - having all new and very nice quiet pool was great but they have their problems too. I will say their pool was awesome but the condos are smaller.

No need to apologize, I have nothing against the young ladies participating in the event. Edgewater hosts this event to bring in revenue, and I'm sure it is very lucrative for them. I just wish Edgewater would have been forthcoming about the event. My wife did call to inquire about this since we dealt with it last summer. They indicated that they didn't know anything about the cheer camps, which we know now was not the case.

Again, I don't have anything against the event, and I know that the entire resort is open to all that rent within Edgewater. However, I don't think I'll stay in Tower One during the summer months again as it is most affected by the noise and generally commands a premium price over the Leeward and Windward, and significantly over the golf villas. I may look into Shores of Panama for future visits.

Welcome to the boardr KylesGal!

It's nice to see everyone discussing a solution.

I can certainly understand both sides of the situation. Seems like Edgewater would want to address this issue and do some coordinating among the guests.

Wonder if anyone from Edgewater will join the conversation?

I didn't want to sound like I don't like cheerleaders, like I said, my daughter did it middle school and part of high school. One year we were in the villas and they had some of the cheerleaders staying in the condo above us and all they did was jump up and down and made so much noise, we decided we wouldn't stay in the villas again, eventho we usually stayed in the Windward.
We went back to the Windward last year but the one unit we usually got was just so worn out and things weren't working so we decided to try a new condo.
I really do like the Edgewater the best, so maybe we can find a condo from an owner that has newer amenities in their condo in the Leeward or Windward. I would go back if so.
We also changed to going in the middle of May so that would eliminate the cheerleader camp since they don't go until June.

I think the Edgewater needs someone guiding the cheerleaders to certain areas and letting the other guests know about it if they don't want to be close to the noise.

I agree. The cheerleeders themselves were not an issue for us. It was having the organized events, complete with an amplified disk jockey, rap music, and a dance contest, right under our condo in Tower One. While I think the pool should be accessible to all guest, I do not think this type of event should be staged around it. It limited the pool's enjoyment, and affects all the guest staying in the rooms overlooking the pool. My balcony was like a box seat at Club Le Vela at spring break.

I totally agree with ya'll. I think the solution would be Edgewater either coming clean with their guests about the camps, or confining the cheer squads to particular areas. Honestly, my daughter was so tired, she would have been happy to use the pool time resting! I think her squad used their free time to practice, the only time they were on the beach was the night they had their beach party. Also, the week she was there, there were only 200 girls..someone told us the week before there had been 400, and the next week they were expecting 600!

Someone mentioned Shores of Panama, I have a friend that is down there now, they are on the 10th floor at SOP and she loves it. She said it was by far the nicest place she's stayed, other than the Calypso. She likes being where the crowds are, therefore she likes the location of SOP better. I hope we we go we like Emerald Beach that much!

Oh and thanks for the welcome!!

KylesGal---oh yea I forgot to welcome you also! Could you ask your friend that is staying at the SOP if they had any trouble getting parked in the parking garage and if there was an issue with any of the elevators being slow or waiting very long.
The one other thing I didn't like at SOP was that they didn't have any soda or snack vending machines anywhere. You had to buy from their tiki bar and they added a surcharge for everything!
The way we got around that is buying our stuff at the store and taking it down to the pool.
Some people tried to take their coolers by the pool, but like most places, you cannot do that.

Yes, the pool there is amazing as are the condos, it's standard that a 1 bedroom have additional bunk beds which is a nice feature for those that would use them.

Our air conditioner went off one night also and there were issues with the condo not being cleaned very well (hairs on the floors in bathroom and kitchen!!).

Thanks everyone!

Thanks TN_Bob

TN_Bob: Thanks for the link to the cheer camp site. We're heading down to Edgewater in a couple of weeks...have stayed there for the past 4 years, and we too have experienced the cheerleaders. The cheer site lists the exact dates even their pool party night...a great heads up. Thanks again!

Some of you have mentioned Shores of Panama. How do they compare in price with Edgewater? Their pool looks fantastic.
