Another Pier Question
What is the status on the piers of PCB? What will be their condition the 3rd week of July? Any chance of one being open by then?

You will have to go to the pier in St. Andrews State Park. The city and county piers are gone. There was a barge that appeared to be driving pilings last week, but the new piers are far from ready.
Sadly, I'm afraid the new pier won't have the same culture as before. As busy as Pier Park is, I bet there will be more spectators than anglers on the pier at any given moment. Last edited by TN_Bob; June-21st,2008 at 02:50 PM. |

City Pier won't be ready until 2009. County Pier after that. Same company is reconstructing both. Couty Pier hasn't even been started.

I was told they tore down the piers at St Andrews also? Is that not correct?

They are doing fireworks at Peir Park and the St. Andrews Marina.
And if you are looking to do some fishing and don't have a boat the St. Andrews Marina is a great place to catch some fish. Just make sure you have fishing license (which you can get at Wal Mart) |

Could elaborate a little on how you catch fish around the marina? I am always looking for new places to fish when I come to PCB.

Yes, thanks for the updates and pics. I had gone back and found the previous thread and posted yesterday or day before about the Dan Russell Pier. What a great picture. I cannot wait to go back out on it. You think it will be ready by the end of August???

From WJHG - Construction about to begin on County Pier
The Panama City Beach pier is getting closer to completion. So now it's time for the city and Bay County to decide if they will have matching admission prices just like their matching piers.
They are looking to work together on the issue. The pier that sits across from pier park is expected to be complete by this fourth of July weekend. In preparation for the opening the city wants to schedule the cost, and they would like Bay County to have the same prices. Bay County commissioner Mike Thomas said, "The city is fixing to open there's this summer and they need to know what they're going to do so they can publish their rates. At the onset of this project the city and the county agreed to build identical piers with identical prices and everything, so we may could even have passes where people in the county and city can use both piers. That way it will be simpler for everybody." With one company building both of the piers, the county's pier located at M.B. Miller park is still a year and a half away from completion. "The county should start work on their pier within a month and we will have user fees on it so that way the people who use it will pay for it," says Thomas. Once complete the piers will be the same, but the county and city will get different funding for their respective piers. The city will receive more funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency because of heavy damage sustained during several hurricanes. "The county is going to wind up with five to six and a half million on our pier where the city will have there's mostly by FEMA, and we'll get about 2, 2-and-a-half million from FEMA. Bay county and panama city beach will also have to look into hiring trained workers at the pier's to release turtles that can get tangled in fishing line it's part of the suggestions by the Army Corp. of Engineers for building the longer piers. |
